Should I worry? _
PostSubject: Should I worry?   Should I worry? EmptyWed May 18, 2011 7:50 pm

Thomas is 22 months now and still does not talk.
He babbles to himself and says the odd word then a few days later will not say it again. The only thing he says is mamma but he calls everyone mamma not just me! Does not even say dadda anymore.
I have been worried for a while but been told not to worry until he is 2.
But now there is something else. He sleeps lots, in my opinion way too much. This has been going on for about a month now.
He is sleeping solidly for 3+ hours in the day and now cries to go to bed earlier than he used to. He sleeps around 13 hours a night.
A few days ago he slept until 5pm then at 6.30 was crying to go to bed saying caca which is his word for milk. He went to bed and slept until 7.30am.
He was in bed at 6.30pm last night and luckily I had an alarm set as at 8am this morning he was still fast asleep.
He has stopped having interest in his toys, just wants to sit on me, I look down at him and his eyes are closing.
He is a very poor eater, hardly eats anything at all.
Sorry its a long one but not sure what to do x

Hi nikki, i would definately talk to a health visitor. Ive got problems with callum and if i hadent have spoken to them i wouldnt have gotten where i am if your that worried they will come and see him see how hes getting on x
I know a few ladies are worried about speech around that age and its normal but if there are other things your concerned about then its worth ringing them x

Hey, there has been so many posts lately about speech so i really wouldnt worry about that. The sleep thing is maybe a little abnormal but then my lo is quite lazy (or was until a few weeks ago!) she would nap 2-3hours a day and sleep 12-13 hours a night.
But I think all 3 together and if you feel some things not right then defo call the HV or pop in for a chat. Good luck x

Thanks for the replies.
I think I will ring hv and she what she says. She has been here before about his eating as at 6 months old he was constantly sick and would not eat, just wanted milk.
He was refered to hospital where they thought he had dairy allergies but turned out to be reflux so he had been suffering quite a while.
He has never been a big eater but not been concerned about that too much but now with these other things im getting more concerned.
My middle son had a heart problem and slept all the time so think im just over worrying because of what ive been thru with him x

I wouldnt worry about the speech, i think its pretty normal at this age for them still to say so very few words.
My boys can have a good 13-14 hours sleep a night if given the chance so i think thats y normal too, but i would be a little concerned about the drowsiness through the day. Could be down to not eating very well, maybe lacking in iron or something but i do thing your doing right seeing the HV hun xxxx

Were you checked in your pregnancy with Thomas for any signs of a heart problem too hun? He does seem a little old to be getting tired due to a heart condition, as these things do normally kick in much sooner in life, but if I were you, I would absolutely speak to your HV and also your GP. The speech thing probably isnt too much to worry about, as many children are a bit like this at that age. But, you may aswell kill two birds with one stone and mention it at the same time. x

I wouldn't worry about the speech. E is two years and 3 months and doesn't speak loads. She says around 80 words but isn't a great talker. I'd get in toUch with your gp and health visitor just to check his sleeping. Maybe he's a bit poorly though maybe if he doesn't eat much he isn't fuelling his body enough. Hugs
