ugh confused Laughing so......at age 1-3 years it seems elijah is allowed up to 3g of salt per day, which is 0.8g of sodium....

how on earth do you figure that out? the only really salty thing he eats is cheese, and very rarely butter (although i normally use unsalted for him). things like pasatta and ciabatta have added salt too.....do you think about it? do you manage to measure it???

i have the fear cos i know babies can get really poorly if they have too much salt.

I had it in my head that Caitlin was allowed 4g of salt a day but I totally forgot about the sneaky gits listing things as sodium and having to convert that! Doh

I do think of it a bit but I dont keep a daily running tally. Caitlin does eat crisps which are high in salt and has been known to eat some of our pasta ready meals which are waayyy to salty for her.

I suppose as long as the majority of her diet is ok - mainly fruit atm! I dont worry too much. May keep track this week just put of curiosity.

She seems healthy so Im not too worried. Im sure there would be a sodium- salt conversion calculator online if you googled Smile

most things on the back say sodium = salt equivalent, i wonder if you are best to stick to one or the other if you are keeping an eye on it

So long as you are careful with 'ready made' stuff like sauces/anything out of a packet that didn't grow then its not hard to keep it within the limits

We never add salt to food, so she has cereal with no added salt, any veg or stuff I've cooked has non added...so I'm just careful with the amount she gets from things like cheese/bread/beans

Thought about it lots when Sophs was under a year as was only a gram a day but now its 3g (though i thought it was two?) I am not quite so anal aboutit. I just try not to give her too many salty things but like the others, i dont keep a running tally.

We had this discussion in biology and unless you add salt while cooking or onto meals after, or eat too much processed food and ready meal type things it's easy to keep to the limit.
