Any experience of low BP? _
PostSubject: Any experience of low BP?   Any experience of low BP? EmptyFri Jul 08, 2011 12:30 am

This is unsual for me. When pg with Caitlin I had high BP, 170/110 on occassions and my bottom number was always 90 or above. Even when not pg my 'normal' BP seems to be around 140/80 ish.

So far this pg my BPs have been - 120/88 at 6 weeks, 144/79 at 11 weeks and then yday at 17 weeks 118/60.

The last few weeks iv been feeling dizzy when I stand up, spaced out alot of the time, had to leave town a few times as I felt I was going to faint, getting out of the bath last week I had to grab shower for a cpl min and then go lie down on bed...
Anyone know how you can raise your BP? Or ways to stop yourself feeling crappy? Iv googled and apparently low BP is common in early/mid pg so Im not too worried. Just not used to this. I get rid of the sickness and in pops heartburn and dizzyness Rolling Eyes Anyone have it and it go by 20wks?

MWs arent concerned, Im not due back until im 28wks. I did ask if they could see me earlier due to high BP in last pg but they said no, most BP probs dont start until 30wks+ apparently so they wont see me. Sort of feel a bit lost and now worrying about low BP and high BP. My body just cant please me can it Laughing

Alright, I'm the queen of low blood pressure, so I hope I can be some help! Record low this pregnancy, 80/60 Laughing Have now crawled back up to an all-time high of 107/88!

All my doctors have said that having low blood pressure is great for baby, even though it will feel a bit crappy for you. All the dizziness/faintness spaced out ness sounds really familiar so I should imagine thats connected to your lower blood pressure (especially getting out of the bath,, the heat + low blood pressure would make you really dizzy) Although obviously i'm not a doctor Laughing

When I've asked about how to feel less crap with low blood pressure my doctor/midwife has generally said, keep drinking lots of fluids throughout the day, and make sure you eat enough throughout the day, spread out rather than in big chunks with long gaps between. But especially increasing fluids should really help.

Go get some squash down your neck!! Laughing

Thanks. The MW did say to make sure I was eating and drinking enough but I suppose I am guilty of sorting out Caitlin in the morning and then realising its 230pm and I havent ate all day... I prob dont drink enough either.

Hmm, well at least low BP is less of a worry for the baby. Also a good excuse to put my feet up 'Stuart I cant possibly clean.. Im pg AND have low BP' Uh Uh! Laughing

I have low blood pressure all the time and it makes me dizzy too. Increasing your salt intake will help, but obviously not too much while pregnant, especially if you're drinking lots too, you need to add salt to your diet, fluids are important and try and eat little and often, eat foods with slow releasing energy, and be careful not to get up too quickly x

Hmm not really sure how to add salt to my diet.. my diet is crap enough already Laughing Well I dont add salt to food but alot of what I eat is processed eg ready made pasta sauces, bread, crisps, pizza. I wouldnt say my diet is low salt.

I probably dont eat little and often though. Eg nothing until lunch and then a big dinner at 6 or 7pm. I'l try and do that thanks.

Is 118/60 that low??, or do I just feel like this because im used to being high? Im pretty sure my readings would be lower than that at dif points of the day as I was feeling fine when they took it and usually my BP goes up when its being done as I get so anxious its gonna be high. Kat 80/60 is a bit alarming! I think id be dead if mine was that low! Did you ever faint?

Do you have your own machine then? Where did you get it? Are they expensive/easy to use?

Sorry for all the questions, but if they not too dear I might get one to put my mind at ease between now and 28 weeks x

Yeah I have a boots home machine, because I have so much trouble with mine dropping, then me passing out i monitor it when I'm feeling a bit ropy I test then make sure I'm careful if it is a bit low. It's really easy to use, just pop it on your arm and it gives you a digital reading, can't remember how much it cost as Ive had it a while now

Well the overlords at Google seem to say 120/80 is average, but everyone's different.. so your higher number looks great, just the lower one is probably making you feel ropey scratch

Snoops, i felt fine! Laughing I'm always a bit wobbly and crap so i didn't really notice any difference..I just need to make sure that if i feel ropey i sit down and rest and eat chocolate cheers Hope you don't feel too rubbish for too long, just keep taking it easy!

That one's out of stock Mandy. Hmm, il look next time im in boots and see. Stuart has just said its a waste of money and I should just pop into pharmacy and ask them to check it every week. Duno what to do.

Kat I cant imagine this feeling to be normal - poor you! Maybe your body adjusts but. I like the sitting down to eat chocolate thing - iv been super good this afternoon and ate 2 flake bars Laughing

I know that Lloyds Pharmacy usually do them for around £15/£20. We need to get Aimee one as she refuses to have it done at her hospital checks.

ah hun, i suffered terribly with low BP when pg...i had to take mat at 29 weeks as i was so ill on the buses, i passed out a few times on them, felt dizzy, spaced out and funny all the time!! Take rest, don't stand up too quickly, and rest as much as you can (those were the tips i got from doc!!) Keep yourself active, but not too much also Smile not much else to say really!! Hope you feel better soon- i know mine started to get better at 30+ weeks (but i didn't get mine until about 24) Very Happy xx

Ive always had really low bp. I got my machine from the co-op pharmacy for £18 and my mw checked it for me for accuracy and it was bang on. When I was googling about bp when i was pg there seems to be something about a second trimester dip in bp where it lowers x

Thats intersting Kayleigh. Was yours low at all in your pregnancys?

Im just wondering if because im low atm does that protect me from getting sky high at the end again? Or are they 2 totally different issues? Eg I could still have high BP and end up being induced? Im kinda asking you to be psychic arent I? Laughing

Mine were always low then went high when I had problems. They never went sky high because they were low to start with so the problem with me was although they were very high for me they were still not flagged up as dangerously high i 'normal'.

In context my booking in appointment with Ollie my bp was 100/60 and it was 167/90 when I was induced

Booking in with Amelia was 110/60 and 160/95 when I had my section.

With Ollie they went up just before I abrupted and with Amelia they gradually creeped up from about 12 weeks but never over 130/80 until right before it happened.

I had low BP with both pregnancies in the beginning, with Libby it went sky high from 34 weeks onwards (just before I was induced I set the alarm off as it went to 175/110).

BUT with Dexter it was low in the beginning but then went normal at around 120/60 ish til he was born.

Like the others have said, take it easy and dont get up too quickly - also try not to have your baths/showers too hot.

xx

Snoopy I ordered a bp monitor from amazon for about 30 quid but you can get them in Lloyds for about 15 I think.
The only inaccuracy (well its not inaccurate...) but when I'm at the doctors like you I get nervous so the first No. of mine always goes up (to 140) but when I measure it at home it's more like 110. So its not wrong its just that Im doing it when I'm relaxed rather than nervous.

My readings at home are about 110 over 70 and at docs are 130 to 140 over 70 to 80.
but thats normal for me.
