Oh dear! Laughing

Caitlin is being ridiculously dramatic atm - screaming/shouting and flapping her arms up and down if she doesnt want to do as she is told. We give her one warning & explain what it is she is doing that we dont like and how it makes us feel. Eg Dont shout like that it makes mummy cross & sad, if you shout like that again you will go into the hall.
If she does it again I just lift her, tell her that I told her not to shout and put her in hall and close the door for a cpl of mins. She hates being ignored but, especially if she can hear me talking to Joshua or Stuart. Usually she screams blue murder and bangs at door but we continue to ignore her. I open the door every few minutes and ask her if she would like to say sorry. This can go on for 15mins until she has calmed down enough and gets a hug. Hmmm thinking about it it doesnt work too well as it takes so many bloody goes to get a sorry out of her. Hoping it sinks in one day but! The good thing though is she really does hate it & sometimes she does stop after her warning so it must be working on some level!

Is there anywhere you can put her that she is safe but cant see anyone/is totally isolated?

Snoops, Ellie does the arm flapping screaming occasionally but it's because she wants something that I won't give her eg chocolate for breakfast!

I don't think she understands what naughty is. So doesn't see it as a bad thing. Yesterday she ran off on me in town and I had to chase her at full speed, when I caught her I really shouted at her and put her in the car and took her home, I kept telling her she was a naughty girl. She really didn't seem bothered.

We do have other rooms, maybe I'll try this and see how I get on.

Ive nevr used it because Izzy wouldnt give a toss, she would just sit there arms crossed and Im sure it wouldnt do any good!

On the occassions she has been REALLY bad, first time was a few months back when she had a hissy at the table and threw her plate and bowl off the table, she had already been warmed, so I just fireman lifted her over my shoulder (safer that way to avoid flailing arms!) and took her upstairs and said she was to stay in there til she was good and sorry, shut the door and held it shut, she had a a paddy in there, shouted, cried, until I said, are you sorry for doing bblah blah .. and she said she was and so I opened door, explained what was naughty, made her promise not to do it and if she did she could finish her (fresh!) dinner ....and she did

Thankfully I haven't had to do it many times since, maybe twice, once was ffor kicking me, cant remember why else? Because now the warning is that if she doesn't behave I will put her in her room and close the door ... and usually it works!

Haha Sounds like someone else I used to know! Amelia used to like the naughty step too. She doesn't anymore. She gets asked and then told. If she's still creating/not doing as asked she gets a warning. Usually that's enough but sometimes she makes it to the naughty step, gets told why she's there and then gets ignored for 2 mins. I go back and explain again why she was on the naughty step and ask if she'd like to say sorry. If she doesn't she gets told to stay there for 2 more mins until she can say sorry. When she says sorry she gets a cuddle.

She used to sing to herself too but she soon realised what was going on. At 1st she did fake tears lol. I don't mind if she does like it there as for me it's not a punishment as such it's chance for her to realise I'm not to be ignored and she will do what I've asked if she's had ample opportunity.

Isla doesn't give a shiny about it either. I rarely bother putting her on it. I take her blanket away sometimes if she is being naughty and that seems to get her on side fairly quickly. I find it so difficult to stay cross with her though as she has such a cheeky smile. She slapped me round the face in Costa earlier as she wanted my attention (completely out of character for her) and took ages to apologise. Thinking about it i didn't particularly discipline her. Umm think i may be making things worse for myself! x
