Ive realised today that Alfie spends far too much time watching TV and I really think its affecting his speech. He maybe says about 6-8 words atm. The tv is pretty much on all day in the background and he gets really transfixed with it. He could stand there hours and watch it. I think its been too easy when ive been trying to do houework etc. This weekend we havent hardly had the tv on at all and I cant believe how much hes learnt over the course of 2 days. I feel so bad that maybe its prevented him from learning. From now on im sticking to tv for an hour on a morning a bit after his aftrernoon nap and ITNG before bed

You arent a bad mum. We al have been there its so easy to let tv take over when you are tired and busy and i sometimes realise its crept in too much and cut it back again. Cue a cpl days of tantrums then she relaises how fab her toys are again. We now make 10am-5 or 6pm tv free time

Well Izzy has a cold and so she is wrapped in blankets on the sofa and i dont care if she watches TV ALL day today cos I dont want her going out, I have kept her off nursery, and the longer she stays still and wrapped up the quicker she will be all better!

We are in front of the tv at the moment. Winter sucks. We've people doing stuff so are basically stuck in the living room and was up from 1am with the kids so lazy day today. E is speech delayed and has learnt quite a few words from cbeebies xxx

Amy your not bad, it's just the culture these days, I have put a stop to the telly being on all day, well when I'm home anyway, Charlie's speech is fine and actually I think the right programmes can help develop some skills like counting colours etc.
But if you've noticed a real improvement then sick with what works for him!

Ive just stuck Clifford on cos cbeebies wasnt keeping her stuck to the sofa!

On a serious note though Amy - its just a bit you've got into - you can easily change that!

I tend to put the tv on when she is having brekkie & lunch so she sits still and eats it! She has a little table and chair and sits there.

She also watches it if I am cooking because she always wants to come and help and sometimes its just not convenient!

He will soon get used to it, Izzy asks for it in the morning but then doesnt ask when it goes off
