I'm sure Joshua is ready for food as he's nearly 6months and constantly grabbing at food and trying to put it in his mouth. We tried him with baby porridge and he liked it fine for a week but now seems terrified of a spoon (might have something to do with Immi 'helping' feed him). He won't take anything from a spoon now and will spit out the little that does get it. So thinking maybe as he's ok with shoving things in his mouth i can give him little things to try himself... is that BLW?? I tried banana today but he just licked it then threw it down. Not sure what to do with weaning now.. help please?!

Sophia's mummy did a blw diary when she started to wean Sophia. It was really good. Ellie was fine with a spoon but also enjoyed cheese on toast and cheesy omelette cut into strips x

I did a combination with Izzy - if she could hold it then she fed herself...but of course I HAD to use a spoon for things like cereal and porridge (I dont see how to get around that lol)
I think its a great way to teach them, Izzy is very good now, not very fussy (unless she hears a kid at nursery say something is horrible lol) - she has a HUGE scope of what she likes and often suprises me with what she will try and like! |

They say no bread until after 6 months because of the gluten. But you can give him anything that you would give if you were weaning the traditional way so steamed carrot sticks or sweet potato outstrip.etc. Pear.apple.cut into strips

Thanks ladies. The scared of spoon thing has completely thrown me off! I'll try some steamed carrots and fruit. Hopefully once he starts enjoying food he might accept spoon.

Jamie refused to let me feed him for quite I long time. He also didn't like banana to begin with. I think it might be the texture because he loves it now. We started with things like carrot sticks and broccoli. Melon was a favourite in the early days. I basically just chucked anything at him and saw how he got on. I didn't start until 6 months though so don't know about the restrictions before that

Just started Noah on a bit of a blw diet, he's had boiled carrot sticks, boiled broccoli sticks so far and loves them, he was also quite good at feeding himself handfuls of mushed up weetabix (definitely needed a bath after that though!) Going to try boiled parsnips sticks next, sliced rather than mashed banana etc. He really loves it, I'm sure Joshua will enjoy getting stuck in and making a mess too!
