PostSubject: Getting rid of bottles   Getting rid of bottles EmptyTue Mar 20, 2012 8:13 am

When did you get rid of bottles? Jamie has one before bed. If we're home he also sometimes has one before a nap in the day as it helps him settle down. Should I be trying to get rid of it or not worry about it yet? Also, did you replace it with a cup of milk or did you just rely on them eating more?

I should really be getting rid of Stephen's bottles but he just loves them! He downs his milk so I'm not too worried about him giving them up just yet as they won't be affecting his teeth or anything. We tried giving him a cup of milk instead but he hardly drank any of it and looked really disappointed Sad

C i tried at about 20m and failed epically. Tried again a cpl months later and she was fine going onto a beaker. Im not even trying with Awen for at LEAST 6m. Im a firm believer they will do things when they want. for now im just hapy to have gotten dummy down to sleeps only and only milk goes in bottles so 2-3 times daily

Perhaps I'll leave it for a bit longer then. I've no idea when we should be trying to lose it. He likes a snuggle and a bottle before bed at the moment and as its not that long since we've got sleep vaguely sorted I might leave it for a bit

If hes happy dont push it. I know what *they* say about bottles but they arent tiny that long in the grand scheme of things. Once C lost her bottles i lost a lotta snuggle time. They will do it when they are ready with far less stress

I hadn't even thought about cups. Jamie still has mainly non spill ones so I suppose we should be trying to get rid of those as well but he just wants to play with the other ones. Mind you, he only drinks water and milk so it can't be doing his teeth any real harm

my 34 month old still takes a bottle to bed, he loves it and I dont see the need to take it off him, he drinks great from beakers and is nearly there with proper cups so its only a comfort thing , and he drinks it to quick to do any damage to his teeth or anything, he can have it til he loses interest in it x

I think just after a year for Sophia we went to cups, but then she was bf and hardly ever would take a bottle. I found the Cow Cup without the valve in worked great. We just swapped over to cows milk, first in the day, then at night when she asked for it, She still ahs in cow cup at night now. She does drink from normal cup fine but at night its just a comfort thing.

I def agree with teh go witht he flow thing though, he'll move on when he is ready

That was early Niccsy. How did you manage it? Jamie wasn't even on bottles at 7 months as I was still bf. I guess I should have tried harder to get him to take milk from cups then I wouldn't have this issue
