Just wondering if any of your lo's have been to the dentist yet, and how they were when they were there.

Rosie is just coming up to 20 months, and as far as I know she has all the teeth she's supposed to have up to now, when I've asked my dentist if he can look at her he says it's not necessary yet, and to speak to them again once she's 2.

I know my local authority has certain surgeries that will accept under 2's, mainly to get them used to going, and I'm tempted to see if she can get registered with one, but I'm also starting to think even now we'll struggle to get her into a dentists chair, because she's quite headstrong.

Have I left it too late do you think?

I'm not sure she'll sit still, she's a stubborn madam when she wants to be. She always ends up having very questionable haircuts because she won't let my hairdresser do it properly, so I have to strap her in the highchair, feed her marmite fingers and hack at it.

I'm going to see mine again in a few weeks, I might ask again if he'll see her, just so we're all at the same place. If not I'll try and find another. I'd rather get her used to it sooner than later. I always worry that we don't get them clean enough so it'd be good to get some advice.

My LO's been to the dentist too, when he was about 17mth. Mainly because I was registering there and I got him registered too.

They checked me over first whilst he sat on my lap and then they just checked him over too, was as good as gold and got a sticker Dentist Icon_smile

If they are refusing to see them until 2yrs (which the majority of them do) could you not just take your LO when you go for your check-ups? just so they get used to the environment etc and maybe let them sit on your lap in the chair so they can see what its all about?

Yeah that's a good idea, thanks. I was gonna leave her at home with my mum, but they could both come, then at least if she freaks out my mum could take her away.
Apparently I was a nightmare when I went for the first time, so I know my mum will be secretly hoping Rosie's hard work, purely for payback. Dentist Icon_biggrin

Izzy has been with me, and she sat on my mums knee, but my private dentist (don't know if different to NHS) said when ever she has all her teeth I should take her in

Luckily he will take her as Dan and I go there, so she has a dentist ready

I registered Bethany last time I went which was in March and I asked my dentist when I should start bringing Bethany and he said next time I go in, bring her along with me and he will try and have a little look (if she will let me) but he said if not it doesn't matter and it will hopefully get her used to going.
I got a letter the other day to make an appointment so we will be going soon xx

My dentist said about 2 for Wil but he does go with me and I sit him on my chest/ belly while the dentist is doing his stuff so Wil gets to experience it.

Libby has been a few times..... not that the dentist has a chance to lok at her teeth though - she clamps her mouth shut Rolling Eyes

We out her name down because it was the only NHS dentist 'locally' (about 10 miles away!!) that were accepting new patients when we joined them. x

We registered Seb with an NHS dentist that OH had managed to register at, they took Seb from about 8 months and are quite aggressive about getting me to book his appts - 2 texts yesterday, was leaving it until thurs when I'm off work to phone up but they phoned me today so he's got an appt for thurs. I can only assume that as the appts are very quick but they get a standard NHS fee that it is a bit of a money-spinner for them. (One of the texts informed me that if I made his appt in halfterm he had a chance of winning an Ipod Nano...)

Not looking forward to it, they usually run late so I have to control him in the waiting room, and last time he cried...
