the babies bedroom is very dark and with lily-ann waking up in the night screaming we're thinking getting her a sensory room would help..

the problem is these aren't cheap...they cost a good couple of thousand for a full on sensory room

we've been given a form for the 'family fund' who help people get essentials for their special needs kids(holidays! driving lessons etc)...do you think it'd be cheeky to apply for funding towards a sensory room?

it's not an 'essential' but i think it would help her calm when she's screaming at 2am

i hate applying for funding for stuff...i feel like begging scum with all her wheelchair, highchair, boots etc it's up to the OT to refer her and sort the funding, but with this it's like begging....but there is no way we can afford that kind of stuff

I agree with lisa, surely thats more of an esential than a holiday or driving lessons.

I would go for it no harm trying at the end of the day your doing it for her, not going on a holiday x x

Don't think like that hun. You are not begging, its there for family's who need it.

In the mean time you could do a tiny sensory room type thing with like fiber optic lights etc and mirrors, touchy feely stuff for her, just somewhere to go for time out
I know argos or Ikea do some nice kinda relaxing lighting that may be beneficial and not too expensive.

Yeh Ikea is fab for that kind of thing, things not specifically for sensory rooms would be cheaper, like lava lamps that you can pick up at car boots and charity shops for a few quid these days!

I think the minute its labled as being special needs which alot of sensory stuff is ...they whack the price up because they know parents will try anything and pay through the nose to help their kids! Its so bad

in that case mara can someone fund a wheelchair, a comfy special bean bag she can sit in(she has to sit on the floor alot of the time ) erm...hundreds of special needs toys....and a body that actually works enough for her to be able to feed herself, pick up a toy, open her hand up for more than 10seconds...and walk!! lol

just for a basic bean bag with a slightly sculpted seat it's about £100....it drives me mental that they can up the price on stuff cos it's special needs...she can do without one for that price! lol

have seen stuff on special needs websites for about £50 but in normal shops they're half the price

The bean bags - are they special in some way? ie; harnessed?

The reason I ask, is they do like over sized bean bags. We have one and its makes a brilliant seat for Moo, we used to turn it upside down when he was younger so it was more like a flat pear shape and it had brilliant support.

hun, a colleague at work, works for family fund on friday, do you want me to ask if this would be ok...

i applied for family fund to take rich on holiday and a new washer another year, they were both very helpful.

also look in the excatalogue shops they sometimes do the bubble machines in there. when rich was younger he had a machine that played soft music and beamed pics on the ceiling, when he was in a mood i put him in room and put this on and it always calmed him down, i think they do them still, look in the baby aisle.

but i will ask my colleague on monday, she is lovely and she will know how much your entitled too.

not sure if little one is too young or could do it, but look at CEA on internet, its a card for people with DLA, and it basically means the carer gets in the cinema for free, but not sure if your little one is too young or not able to sit for whole movie, but thought i'd mention it anyway (EDIT) just looked at your tickers and realised of course she is too young, but maybe an idea for the future lol sorry hun, pg brain is def kicking in lol
