Yes there is a chat room - the link is on the left - when you click it you will need to register as its not fully integrated with the site yet - so best to use your forum user name so less confusing!
Then when you sign in the first time ask it to remember you password and you will just be able to log straight in every time after that

To do your profile pic, go to Profile (at the top), then click Avatar, then you can upload one of your own or pick from the ones in there (theres loads!)
