its a no win situation, I really thought we would get help with chilcare costs too, it seems they don't like to make it easy for mums to get back to work.

Er aslong as you use registered child careyou should get help:here:

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/people-advise-others/entitlement-tables/work-and-child/work-pay-childcare.htm

Says there say eg,you earn 10kand pay 90quid a week you wud get 10350 as eli under 1 as far as i can see

And if you work over 16 hours you should get working tx creditaccording to hmrc

is there a citizens advice or council department you can actually go into and sit down and talk with someone about this?

I'm sure if you speak to someone in person they will help you find a solution and if they can't maybe you should get in touch with some papers or tv programmes get some publicity about it as if your affected and stuck then many many other people must be too and someone needs to sit up and take notice and do something about it rather than wasting tax payers money giving illigal immigrants free healthcare and prisoners cushty hotel like accomdation

thanks mario - i checked with welfare rights today on the phone and we def. aren't eligible for childcare as hubby is still a student - and our annual income will be 7000 a year?? also apparently in scotland nhs students only get financial aid through the saas and not the nhs??? its a bleeding minefield the guy at welfare rights was like wtf this is complicated haha Smile

i have asked him to make an appointment with the student finance advisor but he has been dragging his feet - i only really have 6 weeks to sort it out, hopefully we will get a bit of tax credits to keep us afloat, otherwise i think i will have to work full time and he will have to drop out Sad

I know my university do pay towards childcare so it's worth an ask! It's shit that it's so different for student nurses, if he had the option of taking out the loans the bulk of it doesn't count as income for tax cedits so you'd be so much better off

i know, we still don't know if it is counted as income for tax credits cos even welfare rights couldnt figure it out - we already have 20grand of loans from when i was a student so in the long term its better that he isn't getting into debt - just a bit tricky now Smile

i think they still do grants in england? i've lost track a bit, i went to uni in scotland so although i didn't have fees there are no grants/bursaries for 'normal' students so i pretty much lived on the loans and worked, 4000 is totally manageable, i don't even think of mine as loans now haha they are just sort of arbitrary numbers that sometimes i get letters about Laughing

haha damn maybe it's time to move house! Wink that's great, i still think education should be free to those who are dedicated to it, but i suppose that isn't sensible for the government Smile

is thornbury an agency? he can do bank work and i can do casual relief work when he isn't on placement so i need to find out how that would affect the tax credits - i looked at the scottish health directorate info about his bursary and he might be able to claim some childcare directly Smile

i know, it's only one year and i should kick myself up the arse really for being so ungrateful, i have a beautiful healthy baby and i'm not forced to do anything awful, i just worry that we won't have enough Smile

Oh thats a shame as thornbury pay reallywell, half our hosp is on thornbury on the side lol (im not cos i wont go to work outside of my contracted hours unless i have to cos id rather have the caelyn timethan the money)

This seems to be your thornbury eqivalent:http://www.scottish-nursing-guild.com/ and http://www.nursing-agencies-list.com/scottish_nursing_agencies/scottish_nursing_agencies.asp is a list of other agencies - agency work is always higher paid than bank.

I hope he gets some childcare assistance and you get some TC. Do you get any housing benefit or income support did you manage to find out? Only other thing i thought of,though it wouldnt bring in much issome kind of work from home thing.

Good lucktell your hubby if he needs any info for essays etc can always be of limited assistance lol x

thank you so much!

welfare rights are posting me some stuff out - looks like i will stay home and look at doing casual shifts during non-placement months, we should be eligible for housing benefit and council tax help they said even though hubby is a student....will get him to look at the agency stuff.

if i stay at home it looks like a food etc budget of about 150 a month (glad we got real nappies now haha!) so it might be better to struggle on that then start with childminders etc Smile
