The maths...calories! _
PostSubject: The maths...calories!   The maths...calories! EmptyTue Jan 18, 2011 8:06 pm

So ive never really understood calories and never really paid attention until now.
I remember reading Kentys post about how many calories she had eaten and how many she had burnt....
So what should the aim be when working out at the gym, how many should i try to burn compared to what i eat? Or how long do u stay in the gym?
Hope this makes sense Embarassed Laughing

(I'm not being horrible Kenty so please don't take offence hun!)

I feel that the exercise and calorie counting Kenty has mentioned is a bit excessive (Sorry)
At the gym i tend to burn about 300-350 cals per 30 mins, i will usualyl do about 45 mins cardio and burn about 450 cals and then i'll do about 20 ish mins of weigh work, I don't know how much i burn then but i don't really count anything.

I've done a few different 'diets' on one of them you were told to eat 1200 cal for the first week and try and stay around 5% fat so 5grams per 100g.
That gives your body a kick start, the following week cals are increasted slightly, i think i was on about 1350.

I dont calorie count tho, i point count lol
no idea how many cals i eat now, but i loose weight!

i am excessive over it..as i've acknowledged before i am obsessed with it...yet with a 37lbs loss it can't be that bad.

forget calorie counting too much and how much you 'should' be burning at the gym...as long as your heart rate is up and you're sweating...it's working for you!

your body has a basal matabolic rate(bmr) which is what your body needs when you do absolutely NOTHING but breathe....

so you need more than that to begin with(mine is 1490 or something like that) as even if you're not working out you'll be burning calories going day to day stuff...

so generally it's not advised to cut below 1200 cals a day...but especially with exercising, you'll need to aim for higher than that, more like 1400 or so to lose the weight

Thanks girl, just got a bit confused as i went on the boots website and it said for me to eat 1400cals and burn 350cals (on top of normal day to day tasks) But that would mean eating more than i usually do and exercising less :S
I keep forgetting that im not actually trying to loose weight anyway just trying to tone up and get fit and healthy Laughing

that'd put you at only eating 1050cals(as you deduct what you have burnt) so you'd need to eat at least 150 of your exercise cals back to get it to an even 1400!(confused yet?? lol)

tbh hun i wouldn't worry about any of it if you're not trying to lose weight, just eat whatever the heck ya want! lol
