I've just been told by my mum that I should be giving Stephen vitamin drops. Apparently they are recommended from 6 months but I didn't know this! Does everyone else given them to their lo and where can I get them from? Thanks xxx

i was told by a hv to give eli drops cos he was bf not formula fed through weaning - other hvs and pharmacists looked at me like i was crazy when i told them though, so i decided to wait and see if elijah looked 'deprived' in anyway...so far so good

i think you can get abidec but that is vitamin only and nutrients like iron aren't in it (iron seems to be the big thing just now!) so other than that...im not 100% its necessary!

ive never heard of this. i presume as logn as theyre getting a varied balanced diet they shud be getting enough vitamins from there food? x

I found something on the direct.gov website which mentions giving them to breastfed babies but I presume if they are having a balanced and varied diet then they shouldn't need anything I'll speak to my mum tomorrow again and find out what she's on about. She's a hv nurse and has just been on a course so it's probably something someone told her on that! Thanks ladies xxx

They are usually for bf babies. As long as lo is having a varied diet and formula then there is no need x

its a new recommendation apparently, for babies who get less than 500ml formula a day - well that was pretty much ALL babies up until a few years ago!

BF babies are meant to have iron drops as BM lacks in it. You can get multi-vits which some people say are a con but other never go a day with out! Id say its a personal choice really
