Talk about a shock - got the visa ready to come home, my oh has quit his job etc, go to book the flights thinking it would be about 900 pounds each as it was when we went home 4 months ago - we wanted to book with KLM as it's the easiest route home, only one change and into Norwich airport so a nice quiet airport less than an hours drive from home.

One snag - they're now charging over 2000 pounds for one person one way!
Altogether for me, my oh and Milo we'll have to pay about 4500 pounds!

My dad was going to help us pay for the flights but there's no way he can afford that - he's going to freak out.. we've got no savings, as my oh's job is really badly paid.. I have no idea what we're going to do, I just want to sit and cry as it feels like we're never going to get home

I really want to fly into Norwich, as I'm going to be 7 months pregnant with a toddler in tow, and the though of going through Heathrow with all those people and germs when I'm all pregnant and vulnerable - and then a 3+ hour drive home, it terrifies me. And god forbid of we have to go through immigration there- they could keep us back for ages - and again, pregnant+toddler+terrified of crowds+stuck in immigration = me having a complete nervous breakdown.

So, to the point, anyone know any good reliable sites for cheap flights? I need to come home!

What airport would you be flying from? and what date??

My stepdad may be able to help if you email him (hes a travel agent and very good at getting cheap flights!!)

In fact if you give me the dates you want to travel and the airport you're departing from I will ask him myself if you want!! xx

Provisional date is 14th April though we're really flexible - any time that week or the next one wuld be fine

Ideal route Kansai Airport (Osaka, Japan) to Norwich UK. Just trying to cut down on the travel as we're pretty far from Tokyo, Osaka is much closer.

Oops, I think I wrote all that info in my post to Nutty1,

Ideal would be Kansai International Airport (osaka, japan)
to Norwich, UK. Would consider flying from Tokyo if necessary but reallly want to avoid Heathrow if possible, as I think it might be a nightmare, and after a 12 hour flight (or longer of we've had a transfer) both me and Milo will be at the point of collapse!

Don't mind either direct or non direct, especially if non-direct helps us avoid Heathrow and break up the length a but that might be quite nice! Give your stepdad and you a big hug from me and Milo!

And dates -as I said, anytime mid-april would be perfect! Only 5 weeks away - argh!

Ok hun sorry to bombard you with quotes lol, but my stepdad has found a flight for all three of you for 1215 which is great with one change (Beijing) but the only thing is its to Heathrow. But could you not get a relative to pick you up or the train?? xx

Ooh, that sounds good, where's that from and too, and where are the changes? It's a tough call if going via Heathrow is going to be worse than having two changes, hmm..

My dad or sister will pick us up from Heathrow, so that parts ok, it's just a really long journey home from there, and Milo will be wiped out by that point, not to mention me and my bump..


Found a good quote from Virgin atlantic last night, but it wouldn't specify on the website which Tokyo airport it went from, and which UK airport it landed in until you put in your credit card details.. er, no thanks!! People are saying FinnAir is also good, so I'm i'm off for a bit more research. Thanks again for all the help!

Oh that sounds possible! Never been to Shanghai before!
Think we've cracked why KLM was so expensive - if you put it through as a one way flight it comes up as 2200 per person, if you put it through as a round trip it comes up as 970 pounds!! They say on the website that one way is more expensive because they'll only let you book business class one way trips Is that the same for all airlines? Surely there must be some one way flights at a vaguely normal price or has the world gone mad?

ps: what happens if you buy a return and just don't go back?

You just miss your flight back lol its because KLM is the airline that flies you out from amsterdam and they are soooooo expensive and yeah all one way tickets to certain countries are dearer because of the whole business trip thing, only certain countries are affected though xx
