Back in 2008 BT fecked up our 'home move' BIG TIME and with Dan working at home it was really bad. They promised us compensation which we never got.

So as soon as I left working for BT I moved to Talk Talk, and told BT I was leaving cos of the terrible service and the fact the never paid us compensation despite me chasing a number of times.

Then 2 weeks ago I had a Debt Collector come to MY HOUSE for £113 of cancellation charges. She was lovely to be fair and I showed her all the emails and she said she'd send it to BT and say we cant collect money when its in dispute.

So again I contacted BT but they reckoned all the records from 2008 were archived and they couldnt even find the files in the archive!

Luckily I had copies of all the emails and sent them to BT and the Debt Collector ... and now, 2011, they have have written off the £113 charges in exchange for cancellation fees - isn't that nice!

Had I not had proof (the emails) they would have told me to do one, and I'd have been £113 poorer!

Its even more important if you change your email address - make sure before the old one expires/forget the password etc that you get copies of anything important!

Good advice. I try to keep most emails from companies cause i'm always paranoid about that sort of thing.

Also keep everything from child tax credit as I know someone who was told they owed over £3000 but cause they had every bit of paper ctc had ever sent they were able to argue it and after a long dispute they got it all sorted.

I have had HELL with BT exactly the same as you!
Iv kept record of time and date and how long I was on the phone to them aswell.

Im also still waiting for comp from them 3 years later....... and messed us around yet again when we recently moved!! biggest pile of S*** ever

Ha Ha - no joke, we just had a "bill" from BT this week - from April.... 2009?!? wtf?!
Some incoherent figures about being in credit, but then cancelation charge leaving it at £0, then saying forwarding on to "next bill" - pffft!

I agree. last week we got a letter from AOL for £78.46. But we cancelled with them back in october last year and still paid the mid nov bill as we needed the net up till the end of Nov when we moved to our new place. We had an E-Mail from AOL confirming the cancellation, the last payment that had to be made etc.

then this letter comes through, and they say we didnt call and it was 3 months internet owed and we cancelled it in january when we got a new supplier at the old address.

erm we dont live there.

so we asked for a manager (which took 45 mins to purswayed (SP) the guy to put one on) and we sent him the E-Mail whilst on the phone. he got it wiped the debt. and said your call is on here for october!!!

They charged me for BT Vision, but I hadnt ordered it, so asked for a refund on the account (I never paid it, just wanted it wiped off so didnt have to pay) anyway they refunded me more than the original bill and then sent me a credit note for £2 or something...yeh thanks
