QCF (NVQ) Health and Social Care level 2 _
PostSubject: QCF (NVQ) Health and Social Care level 2   QCF (NVQ) Health and Social Care level 2 EmptyFri Jun 10, 2011 5:48 am

Ok, so in January I did a month fulltime work to get the certifications to go into the home. I did:
Food Safety
Health and Safety in the workplace
Manual Handling
First Aid
Time Management in Care
Data Protection and confidentiality in the care setting
Dementia Awareness
Infection Control on care
Introduction to care
Loss and Bereavement
Funeral Awareness
POVA
Medication
Mental Capacity Act
Care communciation, customer service and recording and reporting
Sensory Impairment awareness
Learning disability/challenging behaviour.

I need to write a piece on a few of these certificates to state what I have learnt and I have no idea where to start! I actually don't get it Sad There are 4 outcomes that need to be stated in this piece.
Understanding why communication is important in the work setting
Be able to meet the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of individuals
Be able to reduce barriers to communication
Be able to apply principles and practices relating to confidentiality at work

I did pay attention in the classes but most stuff I learnt most in the home.
Just some help or advice would be welcome as I have no idea which certificates will meet the outcomes etc... I am getting upset with it and really frustrated. Apologies to those who read my long winded post and think I am being silly Embarassed Sad Sad Crying or Very sad

1) Understanding why communication is important in the work setting
- you could bring in challenging behaviour (communication, verbal and non-verbal is an essential part of deescalation techniques for example), loss and bereavement and sensory impairment - also the dementia elements as these all require more specialised types of communication/listening.
you might also want to put a wee bit about handovers (verbal or written) in your workplace.

2) Be able to meet the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of individuals
- use whichever examples from the certificates you didn't mention from the ones i suggested above to do this question too, you can mention things like person centred planning and developing care plans/support agreements that are specific to peoples needs and wishes.

3) Be able to reduce barriers to communication

- again, the above mentioned courses plus mental capacity - challenging behaviour will be particularly interesting in this question.
at a stretch you can also mention that confidentiality and building trust can increase communication, time management can enable you to have more time to communicate/listen/learn about the people you are working with, and understanding paperwork (recording and reporting) is essential to communicating with other staff.

4) Be able to apply principles and practices relating to confidentiality at work

- have a look at the more formal modules; confidentiality, reporting and recording and data protection, and try to think of a real life example of how you use this (e.g where is personal information kept, how do you prevent it being seen by random people, how do you communicate things about people you work with, with staff)

remember that they will want you to mention types of communication, including with your colleagues/organisation/people you are working with Smile oops, nearly wrote the thing for you!!
