How long and often should/do your babies nap for and how much sleep do they actually need? AMelia Categorically refuses to nap. She will stay awake from 7ish untill she goes to sleep at night. She goes down at about 7 in the evening and wakes twice for food through the night. Shes a nightmare between 5 and 7 as shes so overtired. I know she needs sleep, its just convincing her that she does

How do you do naps? Ive started putting her down in the cot but she just doesnt sleep.

once elijah stopped sleeping all day and being up all night (umm well not the last bit ) he napped twice a day

usually if he was up at 7 by 9 or 10 he needed an hour or two, then again in the afternoon and would be an absolute horror if he didn't get it...

i did then, and do now, hold him to go to sleep which i know isn't what you do/want to do, but if it's the only way to get her to nap i would probably do it as it will help bedtime and nighttime loads

I used to have to lay down in bed with Jamie to get him to nap. He will now go in the cot. He has two naps in the day but the amount of time varies

Ive tried rocking her,holding her, singing, lying in our bed with her, feeding her, leaving her. Thsi child just doesnt give in. Shes so nosey she thinks shes missing something lol

until alfie was 1 he was the same. he wouldnt sleep longer than 20 mins maybe if that. then all of a sudden once he started going 2 hrs. x

Once i got Awens reflux sorted she started going longer than 20 mins. She now has about half an hour in the morning and a couple hours in the afternoon. Shes still waking in the night though but ive found less so if she naps properly

Tyler was like Alfie, would cat nap throughout the day but then come 4 he'd want to be asleep for the night.

I used to rock him to sleep to get him to nap, actually found when we started weaning he started to nap for longer times in the day but if she's not napping at all then umm I dunno - does she fall asleep if she's out in the pram or the car?

Jamie was like that. I used to make the room completely dark and then normally gave him a boob to get him to sleep. It did sometimes take half an hour or more. Hope you manage to sort it soon. I've found the more Jamie moves around, the more he sleeps. Crawling didn't make much difference but ever since his started pulling himself up and walking round the furniture his been better so that might help

Dexter was the same, he would only sleep on me but it was driving me mad so in the end just waited til I knew he was going to drop off and shoved him in his cot. It took a few times for him to cry himself to sleep but now he goes with no problem at all.

He has 2 naps a day, usually around 2-3 hours after he got up in the morning for 30mins to an hour then in the afternoon just after lunch for around an hour. He does get very tired before bedtime so we put Peppa on which keeps him distracted

yeah like jade said, maybe try the pram. if elijah was overtired during the day sometimes the only thing that would work was wrapping him up, putting him in the pram, putting the hood up and raincover on so he couldn't really see out and walking!!! other than that, darkness and boobs/bottle and a cosy in bed.....

Imogen needs a lot of sleep. until she was 18months she napped twice. 11-1 and 3-5. Now she naps at 11.30-2ish

She did used to fuss loads about going to sleep cause she didnt want to miss anything but i used to leave her and do CC. it only took a few days and she was settling herself within a few mins and then sleeping loads!

She'll drop off in the car or pram but will wake up as soon as we stop. Dont even need to get her out as soon as theres no movement shes wide awake. We did a sort of CC for the night time because she used to be the same then and we were all having about 4 hours a day, which wasnt good for any of us. The first few weeks she was home was a complete nightmare.

Think Ill have to put her down and leave her to cry it out it only took 2 or 3 days for the nights so hopefully it will be the same. Wish me luck lol

Good luck! I never managed to get Imogen into any sort of daytime routine - nursery did that for me when I went back to work (6 months). Since then she's had a nap after an early lunch for anything from 45mins to 2hrs. At the weekend we mapped to the nursery routine but she does tend to sleep longer at the weekend which is highly inconvenient if we actually want to do anything social at all!

Lucas as about 30 mins in morn, then 2 hours in afternoon. Which is lovely

But if in car he sometimes goes off too. With him I put him on the sette with max his sleeping teddy, which I only use in day and dummy, fleece blanket and sit next to him and he mainly goes off
