What age do you think its reasonable for a first mobile phone? Me and Adam went to a kids party with Moo last week and the amount of 5/6 year olds with their own phones were ridiculous. I think when they get to secondary school so about 11 is about right for me. I cant see why they would need them before that

I would get one when they go to secondary school as they're likely to be travelling then. I don't really see why they need one before that. TBH they could cope perfectly well without one then but I can see the advantages of it once they're that age. My sister is planning on getting a family one as she is starting to let my nephew walk home alone, etc so that he can take it out with him and call home if necessary

I think secondary school age is right or maybe a little earlier when they start going out and about alone. i got one at 9 but it was when they first became quite mainstream the nokia 5110, my grandad worked at nokia so he was excited about and cause my sister was getting one he felt he had to get me one too.

Lewis had one at 10. Owen's dad gave him a cheap vodaphone phone just before his 8th birthday a couple of weeks ago purely because he'd taken the boys to see their cousins and Owen was the only one there without a phone texting someone ( He gave him the phone but it has never had credit put on it ... My argument is he is always with a grown up, he can use their (i.e.: James or my) phone if he really needs. Owen has had an ipod touch for about 2 years ( a hand me down when his dad got his iPhone but uses imessage on there.

I would say 10/11, there's kids here that have them at 6, but she's lost it 3 times and spends all her credit in one day. So it's far too young, but I'd say about 11 when they start to go off. X

I think secondary school age is reasonable. Before then I wouldn't feel comfortable with it but I suppose it depends on the child and whether or not they are responsible enough to look after it too. I hate the thought of a 5 year old with a mobile!
