| Hi ladies, thought it would be a good idea to put this up so we could recommend to new mums good things to buy or things we wouldnt recommend for baby. Hopefully we might save a few people a few quid on useless item Please feel free to add to the list xxxx |

| Well i was given a nappy bin and used it once its just as easy to put nappy straight in plastic and in the bin. i suppose it would be handy for some people - we just didnt need it. it was faff to set it up and just got in the way - our house is crammed as it is |

| Personally i wouldnt buy a baby bath. The big bath is just as good and you only get a little use out of the baby bath. xxxx |

| I have to agree a baby bath was a complete waste of time, didnt use my pram part of my pushchair much either as my Lo grew out of it quickly, and her moses basket come to think of it x |

| See now I found baby bath good for the first few weeks when we used it on the table, so didn't need to bend - and then used it in the 'big bath' so nice and deep (relatively!) without having to fill the bath. I guess you don't get that much use out of it, but I do know someone who to date still uses her son's baby bath for her laundry. Proudly. 30 years on. Seriously, he grew up already!!! I'd say that nipple shields for breastfeeding were the best purchase for us - but that's a whole 'nother thread For baby it's got to be muslin cloths for all the thrills and spills, oh and a playpen-type activity centre (have posted in product reviews) xx |

| I bought one of those grobag egg thermometer thingies and it was on ebay within a fortnight. My monitor had a built in thermometer so it wan't necessary to have it, but I found the 'strip' thermometers to be more accuarate than the egg anyway - which always gave a higher reading.
My bottle warmer was a waste of money - it took 8 minutes to heat up a little bit, my kettle took 2, so it was easier to boil that and warm the bottle in a jug of boiled water. Eventually I just used the microwave.

| Now i love the nappy wrapper and still use it now - it wa sone of my best purchases as otherwise would have had to trek down garden to bin with stinky nappies! Lily also liked hte fisher price rainforest playmat and spent hours on it. I also found a cot top changer really useful to save space.
I would not bother with baby bath and i also spent £300 on silver cross pram, the only bit i really used was the car seat and then we ended up buying a lie flat buggy to take on hol when she was 4 months old and we have not used the other pram since as its so big and bulky.
I would also not spend too much on a highchair as this was not really used that much as she sat a the table with us in a booster seat for most of the time. |

| My don't bothers are:
- baby bath - used it twice then used the sink, big bath or shower
- carry cot part of my pram - Wil used it to nap in for the first few weeks that was it and I only put it on the pram frame twice because the car seat was more secure for him and he slept better in it
- change bag - just get a good general bag (I have a great rucksack for days out with loads of pockets)
- moses basket - Wil went straight in his big cot from day one
My must haves for the first year are:
- muslin squares (sick squares to me) still use them now for all sorts
- bibs - Wil was sicky and a dribbler and they saved washing
- jumperoo - vital from 3 months if you want a bit of peace
- baby sleeping bags - fantastic to avoid kicking off covers
- dummy clips (if LO has a dummy) - saves dummies ending up on the floor or lost
- lightweight stroller - if you use public transport or the car a lot they are so much easier than a big pram
I am sure I will think of more |

| top and tail thing... cant think what you'd call it?? never used, only use it now to hold her bath toys in, only because I have nowhere to put it. See I got loads of use out of the baby bath. only recently shes out of it. our bath is quite big and she still fit in there as shes so small. and I agree bottle warmer! argh waste!!! x x |

| muslins and bibs i can't get enough of! especially now cos she's drooly! sleeping bags have also been great as it's just suddenly gotten cold and she kicks off the covers too.
nothing has been a waste so far, i tried not too buy too much but we haven't used our baby monitor or carrier yet |

A bottle/food warmer.. we not EVER used it.. mirco does food in seconds and we used to put a lit of hot water in with some cooled down boiled water for milk
baby bath, we didnt get one any way, but we brought a baby seat from mammas and pappas which lasted till she was nearly 6 months so then we got a aqua pod from mothercare
things to buy-----
Bibs and muslin squares! lots off!
a nappy bin.. a dummyclip, great for the push chair as the cant throw their dummy out sleeping bags,.. brill!
Teetha teething powders.. they knock your lo out in mintues! great for when your baby is screaming the place down due to teeth

| oohh thanks guys this as helped but with the baby bath, after he didnt fit in it anymore, i filled with water and he used to play his toys in it, no need to worry about getting too cold when he not in the water, he loved this and then when he reached 18 mths i filled it with play sand and he loved that more, although it was more outside toy. when he reached 3 my dad buried it in the garden and rich filled it with a mixture of sand and dirt for his dumper trucks.
we threw it away when he was about 8 because it had spilt, but i have to say it worked a treat for us. |

See I needed to buy a baby bath. As 1) we only have a shower here in a unit so would be VERY difficult. 2) Kitchen sink normally in use and not very hygenic haha. But I guess it depends on the person's situation. |
