Sleep issues _
PostSubject: Sleep issues   Sleep issues EmptyThu Dec 22, 2011 9:52 pm

Sorry am always posting about this. We almost seem to have cracked it but still have a morning issue. Jamie goes to bed sometime around 7.30. It still sometimes takes a while but cc went out the window as when we did try it his breathing became awful. Most of the time you just have to sit next to his bed for a couple of minutes though which is ok. He then has a feed around 10-10.30 depending on when we go to bed. We tried cutting it out but he woke at 2. He was sleeping until at least 5 but now is waking up a 4 every night for the last couple of days starving. We've tried to get him back to sleep but he won't go without a feed and if I do it his attached for ages and if we give him a bottle he drains 9oz and still wants more. He does then go back to sleep for a few hours (although when we're at work we get up at 6).

Now this isn't disasterous because its so much better than it was and I can certainly survive on the amount of sleep I get now. I don't know how to fill him up though. He has a feed from me around 6ish and then a bottle when he goes to bed plus the bottle at 10ish. He eats plenty during the day as well. Do you think this is likely to be a growth spurt or him catching up where he was ill and lost loads of weight (and he has put a bit back on in the last couple of days) and we should wait it out or do you think we need to try and change something. I did wonder if he was just awake at that point (he was up for an hour and a half this morning and really wanted to get down and play) but again I don't know how to change it. If he goes to bed later he normally does sleep better but his generally exhausted by 7.30. He has a nap for up to a couple of hours in the afternoon anyway but we still can't make him stretch. We've had a few occasions where his skipped the nap but then his screaming by 5 because his overtired and zonks out by 6 at the latest which just means he wakes up even earlier.

Sorry its really long and I'm impressed if you've managed to read it all. Just wondered if anyone has any ideas.

What time does he have his dinner? Could you maybe give him some porridge before bed to keep him full through the night?

He has dinner at lunch time and tea around 4ish as that's the routine at nursery. That's an idea actually. I'll try giving him some supper and see if it helps

supper is a great idea actually elijah started having a couple of bits of toast after shower during reading story time and more often than not he wolfes it down (has tea about half five and toast at eight) plus i find if he doesn't want supper/is too tired for it he wakes up grumpy in the morning cos he's hungry

Does it help him sleep any better Mari?

We're going to try some scrambled egg on toast today as I think that sounds like a nice supper food

Or some rice in his milk to thicken it a bit. I tried the bedtime milk with awen but it made little difference so will probs try this with normal formula now as i cba buying the bedtime milk anymore. What about moving his bedtime til 7, he might be overtired

I wondered that but the earlier I put him to bed, the earlier he wakes. I tried supper tonight and if that doesn't make a difference I'll try baby rice in the milk

haha god knows we are still living in the world of random sleep episodes - i do feel he seems more settled (when not teething/overtired/had a late nap/moon in wrong phase/poorly Laughing) as he snuggles down though and happier in the morning

pff ive just completely given up, bought another double mattress, put the cot down until we move and can sort it out properly and he sleeps with me every night and hubby gets the other mattress on the floor - no point in trying to address it just now as we are basically just waiting to move so i still spend an hour getting him to sleep just with cuddling and not bf then can only sneak out of bed for an hour then im back in with him or he won't stay asleep........its a bit of a pain but im not concerned as he has adapted fine to not bf so i know once we are settled after a few nights he will be ok sleeping properly (or am i delusional Laughing)

oops that was a bit of a random one!

Well if you're delusional then I am too because every night when I go to bed I think this is going to be the night when Jamie sleeps through. Hmm actually perhaps we are both delusional!

Hopefully you'll move soon and he'll settle down

im comfortably delusional now at least Laughing totally at one with it!! on the plus side he certainly sleeps an awful lot more than he did even 6 months ago and is much much easier to settle (sometimes just a shh and a stroke on his cheek is plenty) Smile
