Well had an eventful evening Cerys was carrying an empty soup bowl through the kitchen, she went to put it down but it smashed on the floor and her hands were still on it - managed to cut her hand open Blood dripping everywhere so tried to wrap it with kitchen roll but that didnt work. It was a deep gash so i knew it needed to be looked at.

Got to a & e at 5.45pm and she was finally seen by a doctor at 9.40 pm - it was heaving !!! Anyway she had another doctor look at it as well. They gave me 2 choices. Either go to Swansea hospital to see the hand surgeon and have it stitched under sedation (Swansea is 1.5 hrs away) and she may have to stay in OR have a local anaesthetic and do it there and then in casualty. So i was brave and went for the local anaesthetic there and then. OMG o never seen her in such a state when that needle went in I had to be strong for her. The doctor was excellent and put 2 stitches in very quickly while i held her.

I feel awful now letting her carry the bloody bowl. Only now its sinking in. poor thing but she was so brave

Oh meggy, poor cerys and poor you. Dont feel guilty 1st of all accidents happen, i turned my back on c for like 90 secs the other day and she went face first off a chair and cut her gum so its so easy doneand you were not to know it would break.

Must have been a hard choice re swansea or local hossie, im sure she wont ever remember it though at least at her age. Just big her up as a big brave clever girl for the next few days. Lots of calpol and brufen for next cpl days even if she seems comfy give it anyway and it will keep any tenderness at bay.

thanks rot - yeh i chose the lesser of the 2 evils. I thought about which might frighten her the most (sedation ). The gash went through the flesh and fat, they obv tested her hand movements which were fine thank god. Got anti bac ointment to put on 4x daily xx

Oh the poor wee chick! Glad she is ok! Id have picked the local option too. Dont feel guilty. Caitlin jumped off my bed today onto the tiled floor though thankfully landed on her hands and knees (I think, judging by the position I found her screaming in.) My fault for allowing her to bounce on bed and then stupidly turning my back for a minute to read a text message.

Hope she sleeps well and it doesnt cause her too much pain x

Poor Cerys, gosh ellie is always picking up cups and glasses etc, left out by other kids!

Anyway at least it's sorted now, hands heal really quickly too.

omg poor cerys i cant believe they took so long to see you

when leo's arem was cut by something flicking out from my mums lawnmower, they saw him streight away, xray streight away and then back in streight away(there wasnt really any blood though ). they were also undecided on weather to stitch or glue and strip it because they thought stitching would be too destressing(guess they had no option of general??)in the end they went for glue and strip, but they simply werent strong enough and he had to go back for more glue cos it kept opening and now still has a lump/swelling undernieth and a 3.5cm scar, i think they should have stitched it. a hand is a very strange place to cut your forever moving and stretching/flexing it...i bet your on edge everytime she moves it
i hope it heals really quickley and doesnt cause her too much bother, poor little miss and poor you xxx

thanks ladies - had some bad dreams, suppose thats my mind dealing with th event after wards. she's ok this morning, keeping dosed up for the pain. she cut it in an awkward place - at the bottom of her little finger, right in the crease where it meets the palm. yeh im on edge this morning praying it doesnt split open. im glad i went for it there and then rather than go to another hospital to have her sedated !! just got to keep an eye on her hand and finger movements xx

aw bless her!! Im good with blood and all that but I dont think I would be if it were any of my girls, I feaked out she I niped the top of her finger only little bt of blood! you did so well!!
