hi, I just wondered if im being unreasonable by not paying for nursery...

On monday sophie is supposed to go to nursery for half a day, which costs about £25, that is more or less my wages, anyway, sophie had been sick on saturday which i said i thought was something she ate and i said could she just keep an eye out but she should be fine as she had been fine on sunday and monday morning.
The 1 nursery girl was saying im sure shel be fine and going to take sophie. then this other girl comes and says we cant take sophie in because she might have a 48 hour bug.( on reflection, the woman must of been an idiot, and i hadnt realised, because that IS 48 hours!)
so i had to miss work(no earnings) and the nursery are still demanding payment. Now i understand if id rang and said she was ill and not coming i woulda had to pay but as far as im concerned i turned up with a well child! I dont think i hould have to pay.

Were you given a Parents Handbook when she started the nursery?? If so what does the policy state in there, as you will have signed to say that you will adhere to all policies and procedures set out in the Parent Handbook.

Our nurseries policy is they have to have 48 hours completely sickness free, so that would be 48 hours from the time that she was sick, so dependant on what time of day it was on Saturday would depend on what time she woud be classed as out of the 48 hour period if you get what I mean. xx

argh ,, its the standerd rule in schools that no child is to come back until 48 hours after the last sick/diarhea "event" ,,,,, they may have been thinking she was sick saturday night therefore she would not have been allowed back until tuesday ?

unfortunately though nursery schools tend to still require payment regardless of whether your child is off or not , well it is that way up here Sad

i did sign the thing yeah, but as far as im concerned she didnt have a bug, she was sick once and had no other symptoms. no diarrhoea, not even a temperature. if i hadnt have mentioned it in passing there would not have been an issue lol.

its a crappy system when they are only sick once but the staff cant take the risk and have a duty to protect the other children from potentially catching the bugs Sad x

Michelle is right hun, it is crappy the way that it works, but although this time your child was sent away after just being sick once to protect other children, next time it might be another child sent away to protect your child.

You are completely right in what you say though if you hadn't mentioned it they would never have known, but I have to say hats off to you for being honest as some parents wouldn't have said a thing. xx

I agree with what the other girls have said. Its crap but the sickness policy is there to protect all the children including yours. It does have to be a full 48 hours after any form of sickness, completely symptom free.
The nursery is completely in the right here hun, sorry

Yeh its rubbish when you have to work, I know how many days I missed due to it!

TBH thought I wouldn't bother trying to get the money back - it will be in their rules and so they have every right to expect payment

It is rubbish but that is how they work.... Seb was being sent home with a "stomach bug" every 4 weeks after "cheesy bean pie" was on the menu - the situation has improved since we banned him from having 2nd helpings of it! (Luckily it is on the menu on the last day of the week that he does, so I didn't have to worry about the 48 hr thing.)
