Housing benefit question _
PostSubject: Housing benefit question   Housing benefit question EmptyFri Nov 04, 2011 10:12 am

This is my 1st time getting housing benefit and council tax credit so I'm a bit confused (easily done!)

We started claiming when my oh was out of work, I was working part time self employed but not making very much. They awarded us £507 pm, our rent is £550 so that was good Very Happy

My OH started working a few weeks ago and his salary should be about £19000/year. Do you reckon we'll lose all our housing benefit and council tax allowance or will they just pay a reduced rate? scratch They are processing it at the moment so can't give me a definite answer, so wondered if anyone would know? Thankoo!

Evil or Very Mad At least they have awarded it to me, they jst can't tell me how much I'll get. Rolling Eyes

Hello! there is no cut off on what you earn when it comes to hb. we still get a hb n Perry is on 18600 a year but our rent is 1100 a month so they top it up. u would say that they would stop it. i think you as a family by law with two kids is sonera thubg like 235 week after rent to live off either your bills food shop n what not. so you need to work out what oh will earn per week after tax plus any take credits n the work out what your rent is per week add the rent amount plus weekly live off amount n see uf your short or over. the only thing they don't take as income is child Ben as that's the kids.hope you understand me lol. Don't ask on the council tax.. No idea how they work that one outlol xx

Hard to say as it comes down to so many factors, how much you earn compared to how much the government state you as a family of four think you should be able to leave on, compared with what your rent is and how big the house is, also how many other benefits you have and how much they are is a factor
Matt earns £19,000, I don't work and we get £430 tax credits and £134 child benefit. We just sent our form in so I don't know for sure but the online calculator said we should get about £85 a month. So I would think your hb would be significantly reduced but might not stop altogether.
Is there a calculator on the council website, I know there is on the Bedfordshire council site but I don't know about other councils

Housing benefit question _
PostSubject: Re: Housing benefit question   Housing benefit question EmptyFri Nov 04, 2011 10:46 pm

Thanks for all the advice, I will definitely check online and see. Thanks!

Jessica, I have phoned them about 10 times, the 1st 7 they lied and said it was still being processed as they were waiting for info to come back, the 8th time they told me the claim had been rejected back in july (as they thought my OH was living in japan when it says on all the forms he was living in the uk! grr. The person who advised me when we opened the claim had told me to tick the wrong box Evil or Very Mad ) but not only had they not informed me, they also seemed to still have it open on their system scratch 9th time was told it had been awarded and would be with me by the end of the week, it wasn't, but I did get a letter at the end of the week saying the claim had been rejected. Phoned up yesterday, it's not been rejected, it's been awarded and they're calculating how much I'll get. Doh I give up! But writing the letter of complaint will be a lot of fun! Very Happy

They really are shite!

Cos they fluffed up my income on last year, they said we were over paid...the woman agreed on the phone but I had to appeal in writing!

Did that and they said they had sorted it - they didn't and now we are being chased to get the money back...thankfully we never got much in the first place so its not masses they want back, but I am fed up of them - I have told them so many times my income has an extra digit on it that is not correct and they will not just change it!

DICKHEADS!
