My oh side of the family buy harry presents nearly every time they see him but its starting to get a bit silly now as the pressies they get him are getting bigger lol last month mil bought him a chalk board for over 3years so he doesn't really know what to do with it and it takes up half his bedroom. Then robs grandma buys him a trampoline again for over 3years and its to go in the garden and my garden is so tiny. Today we spent the day with my mil at valley gardens and she comes out with a great idea, her mum and my sil and mil are not going to buy him and easter egg, which I thought was a great idea until she said they were going to buy him a sandpit instead! To go with the trampoline in my tiny garden! Why cant they buy him normal sized toys, my house is so small I just cant fit them all in. And my sil keeps buying harry clothes which is lovely but i've told her that we are all set for clothes in 18 to 24 months and she still keeps buying them in that size his wardrobe is full. I've told her if she wants to buy him clothes that we need pyjamas but shes not listening! Do I sound really ungrateful? Xx

I don't think it is ungrateful, as you obviously don't have the space for these gifts, it's not like you're being a moody cow, you just have nowhere for the toys. I can see it's going to be hard to ask them to stop without sounding ungrateful though. Maybe try making a joke to get your point across, this usually works for me. x

hahaha nah not ungrateful (or if you do, i am so ungrateful too i can't even see it haha). i reckon you should put all that stuff on gumtree, use the pennies to buy smaller versions (surely they won't notice tell them its an optical illusion cos your gardens SOOOOOO BIG), then put the leftover pennies into an account for harry or towards something he actually needs

Not at all. There's got to be a limit. Can you suggest they have some of the toys at their house for when you're there?

ummm, pass them on to me lol. Just tell them to save there money when it comes to something ur not keen on.

Lol! yes exactly like that. I always manage to make my point with a bit of humour when it comes to problems with the in laws.

i have not spoken to them in about a month, unfortunately even the silent treatment doesn't seem to work with these buggers. they must be genetically modified inlaws or something

we have had the same problem with inlaws since Chloe has been born, I feel your pain. I have put my foot down and in the nicest possible way told them that although we are very grateful, she doesn't need/want/have the space for 3 million clothes/shoes/toys and if they really want to spend money on her to put it into her savings account so we can buy things when we need it. They have got better, they still buy things that are kept at their house but it's gone from presents every week, to once every couple of months. xxx

bigger than me. And his+dad buys a big pink tent with balls too. Our place+yat
only small!

you dont sound ungrateful hun, that would drive me crazy to be honest too.

what about opening him a bank account, giving them all the details and say that you are saving for his big boy bed, or a new bike or just saving for his future, and that you would like it if he had the money there to buy what he wants as he gets older, perhaps towards a deposit on a house or car.

and say at christams and birthdays they can buy pressies, but any other time you would prefer teh money so that he has a little nest egg

my dad puts £25 a month into all his grandchildrens bank accounts, they have £25 for birthdays and christmas, its expected that its to buy their car or flat deposit.
