My lovely baby boy seems to have changed into a meanie!
He's started hitting people, it's not necessarily hard, it could even just be a slight tap but he's using a fist and he knows it's naughty!
He's also started throwing the 'fall to the floor' strop when he has to do something he doesn't want, getting him in the buggy if he's been talking is a nightmare!!

On the whole he's he normal happy self but these little out bursts are becoming a little to regular.
How do I tackle it? He's too little for the naughty step he simply doesn't understand and so will get straight back up.

Caitlin isnt hitting out - yet!

She does however do the fall to floor thing, going rigid and limp at the same time which makes it difficult to pick her up. Then the kicking, screaming, wailing starts....

I usually pick her up and move her away from whatever she was doing wrong before the tantrum started. To be honest sometimes that just makes her tantrum in a different part of the room but I do my best to ignore her. More recently I have started removing her (have done it twice) to her cot for 5 min time out. This was after she poured/shook a cup of juice over the floor - which she fully understands is naughty. I told her it made me very sad and I needed to clean it up, repeating how sad mummy was at her behaviour. She did go sheepish and lie quietly in her cot until I came back for her.

Its maybe not the best psychological strategy for parenting, but atm the mummy is sad/hurt route is working the best. She seems to not like the thought of me or daddy looking like we could cry (looking cross is funny but!). Again prob not a strategy that some approve of... but iv started telling Caitlin about 'the man' and that is working alarmingly well eg if she isnt picking her toys up 'Will I tell the man?' or if she is kicking/struggling getting her nappy changed I say ' uh-oh the mans at the window, you show him you are being a good girl'.

There is 2-3 months between Caitlin and Charlie so he may not react the same as Caitlin. I hope you find something that works for you. The only thing is I think tantrums/hitting unfortunately are quite normal at this age and prob will continue no matter what we do - until they are nearer 3. Its horrible but thankfully something that most grow out of!

as snoopy said unfortunatley quite normal at this age, oliver's been having tantrums since he was abpout 6 months old Rolling Eyes but they are getting more regular now! like yestoday he didnt want to go int the pushchair so screamed and struggle and went ridgid, but i just carried on putting him in and ignored his screaming and he soon stopped! if possible ignore his behaviour, but if he is going to hurt/smack someone then just try removing him from the situation, if your out and about you could sit him back in the pushchair for example until he calms down, then warn him if he does it again he will go in the puschair(i used this one with oliver at football as he's a bugger for running on the pitch) although whereever possible i would try avoid usung that one cos i wouldnt want him to associate the puschair with him being naught otherwise he'll never get in it Shocked lol x

Callum hits but he thinks he being funny not naughty he will like tap u and laugh we keep saying no but he doesnt understand so now i move him away from me like if he hits me i say naughty and move him away and only let him back if hes stopped doing it.
The tantrum throwing on the floor callum has recently started i try to ignore him but its hard if he decides to do it in a middle of a shop Laughing i try picking him up he just screams and makes it hard to pick him up i havent found a solution yet tho xx

I am totally dreading this age! Already Imogen does hit but I think it's just vigorous stroking at the moment (like when she gets overexcited with he cats), but we do too have the making it hard to pick her up and the tantrum crying, just not on the floor.

My mum says I only ever once had a proper tantrum in a shop: she walked off and left me to it and eventually I stopped, realised nobody was watching and sheepishly went to find her. I never did it again she says!
