Someone wanna come feed my bloody daughter shes doing my head in

No matter what i cook for her dinner at the mo we are having tantrums and refusals to eat. Ive tried cutlery, no cutlery, earlier dinner, later dinner, at her little table, in her highchair. Shes driving me to distraction. Yesterday was travelling all day so she had some fruit for brekkie, a nutrigrain bar for snack, she ate a handful of chips off my plate for lunch and a bit of milkshake then refused anything else, she ate 1/2 a marshmallow crispie square on way home then refused all dinner and ended up with a yighurt and 2 oz milk bedtime.

Today shes had handful cheerios for lunch, took her to pizza hut for a buffet as a treat for lunch thinking some me and her time and some pizza might tempt her, she ate a small slice pizza, a dollop of relish with her fingers then took umbrage at the rest of the food and went into a meltdown. She was still hungry though cos i offered her a fruit pouch in walmart and she practically inhaled it. Ive tried putting a bit of soup in her sucky cup now to see if she wants to try that and shes having none of it.

Ive bought some potato and carrot waffles for dinner tonight and a couple of nut burgers to see if she will try them with some beans but this is doing my head in. Im not making a huge deal out of it and have instituted a no dinner no treats/extra meals rule so if she doesnt eat dinner she can have a yoghurt or some fruit but im not running around making extra food. But honestly someone please tell me this is a phase, she used to eat anything you put in front of her. I know shes *still* teething at the mo as she seems to have been doing non stop for months now and im even tempted to try a spoonful of calpol 30 mins before dinner to see if its a sore mouth causing it.

at end of tether with it, shes had one hot evening meal in 4 days now

Ooooh I remember this at about the same age!!

I will admit I had to go for about two weeks of giving her chicken nuggets and waffles and just ignoring her at meal times.

If she didnt eat it, I didnt give her anything else, other than fruit.

She soon perked back up and started eating again.

I really did find that the more I tried to offer her different things, the worse the situation became.

If she is really hungry, she will eat. She is probably just testing you and going through a picky stage.

Thanks laura. My friend with a 15 month old is going thru same so maybe i just need to go down the sausage and chips route for a wee while as its what she wants (she never refuses sausage or chips). Im gonna try a couple of things though like making her sausage rolls which she loves so can put some veg in em and making her pizza so i know whats in it. If shes gonna eat crap for a while i can at least decrapify it slightly (ooooh new word). And the potato waffles ive bought her today also have carrot in em. So might make me feel better whilst cutting down on battles. at least i know theres hope she will behae better in future with food

I bet you will find she snaps out of it in no time.

I also had the waffles with carrotts (asda?, lol) and they made me feel a little bit better too.

I found that Aimee's problems came from the sheer sight of a spoon and then that would just make her scream through the rest of the meal, even if I took the spoon away.

A couple of weeks on sausages and pizza wont hurt her and she will soon get bored x

As you know I'm going through exactly the same thing, and I have absolutely no advice. I know how hard it is and frustrating when you've cooked a meal and they turn their nose up at it but then will eat yogurt/fruit/dry cereal etc. I'm taking the no nonsence attitude and if she doesn't eat it then she won't have any dessert and will have to go to bed hungry (just won't take her to get weighed for a few months though Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Icon_surprised ) It will worry Simon as he's getting so stressed about how small she is at the moment but I cannot be doing with her being fussy. Hope it is just a phase (a bit of a later one for Libby) and they do get out of it soon. xx

Yes neil's stressing about her going without dinner and keeps trying to persuade me to make something else. Ive said no yoghurt and fruit. Ive just given her a dollop of calpol and put the nut burger and waffles in the oven for 20 mins and gonna give a small dollop of mushy peas with em with no spoon (like libby shes going mad if you try and put a spoon near her). Im gonna get her weighed this week but going by my scales shes not lost anything so she must be getting enough its just me getting worried. Shes obviously not, shes just wandered past me throwing her bouncy ball!
