Re homing a cat _
PostSubject: Re homing a cat   Re homing a cat EmptyMon May 02, 2011 12:29 am

I want to re home my cat. I've had enough of it. I've loved him dearly for the last 8 years but his behaviour is just too much.

He's been checked at the vets, he didnt have worms but has been wormed he's in great health.

he has biscuits on tap all day. he gets fed meat in the evening and always has fresh water.

But he keeps going through the bin for food, he's been taking food off our plates, tries to get into the shopping bags when there is meat in there and this is with us unpacking the bags!!!!

He's even taking food from the grill (on top of the hob) when its COOKING!!!!!!!!!!!

And i cant deal with the litter box any more. its cleaned daily but he seems to have a crap 2 mins before we leave for work so that OH has to clean it and the smell is still there when we get home.

and with a baby on the way who is going to go straight to the litter box. argh

i cant not deal with him any more i dont know whats wrong with him and i really dont care now.

He'd suit an older couple or person. but i'm unsure how to find him a home like this. he's pass the age of young children now he's very good with them but he likes his rest.

any ideas on how to find this sort of home?

cats protection would be your best bet, that's where I got mine from (and where she's going back to if she's not careful!!)

yeh the CPL are amazing. they have really lovely big runs so the cats get lots of free time until they are homed.

have you had his bloods done at the vets? is he losing weight? xx

have you tried getting one of those plug in for cat that helps calm them?
cats can get stressed very easily and can also pick up on emotions of people, i will have a look on the net to see if there is any tips, is it just going through the bins etc or does it poo on the floor alot?
i had a cat called silas that was really hard work so was advised to get some things to help tire it out so i got a few toys and a large cat scratcher which helped alot.

if i could have a cat where i lived i would rehome it for you , i love cats Smile

hope you manage to sort things out xxxxxxx

we contacted cpl when i couldn't deal with our maniac cats after having elijah - we eventually re-homed them ourselves as i really had come to the end of the line with them, but ours went on a cpl waiting list which meant they contacted us if anyone suitable came up, but we could keep them at home rather than in a run (plus they didn't have room) so it worked pretty well. we just let them know to take them off the list when they went to their new home.

you have moved house recently havnt you? has it been happening since then? cats get stressed so easily.

few things to try:
the feliway plug ins or sprays. you get them from any vets and can buy them over the counter.
put all his litter trays in quiet areas of the house where he isnt being disturbed.
provide more than one or even more than two litter trays.

I would consider actually taking him to the vet for a consultation to see if they want to do blood tests incase its not stress and a medical condition. if you try and eliminate the stress factor then they will be more likely to investigate it further.

also there is a food out called calm by royal canin. we prescribe a drug called zylkene for stress (it replaced diazepam) and royal canin have taken a component from that drug and put it in their food. might be worth trying that.
