*Looks around anxiously for the baby police* Ive been toing and froing for a couple of weeks now but it seems my tiny person wants to sleep on her tummy Ive been allowing it during the day and when she doesnt doze off in her swing sat up she wants to sleep on her play mat so i gave it a try and found if i put her down on her tummy is off in the land of nod in minutes then wakes up all dozy and content and lies watching the world go by for a wee while before demanding my attention whereas trying to get her to sleep in her hammock she is screaming and throwing the dummy out before finally falling asleep from exhaustion and waking up in a vile mood cos shes all acidy and refluxy. Ive been resisting it at night cos if i let her front sleep and something happened i dont think i could ever forgive myself but whilst we have had some improvement (from 2 hours to settle her with 9-10 trips upstairs in the 1st hour alone for dummy replacement down to 1 hour now with 3 or 4) shes still not loving it and im having to either go up and down the stairs until she finally flakes out or bf her to sleep (and more often than not still make a couple of trips). So i figured id bite the bullet and let her try front sleeping But as im still intensely paranoid about it ive persuaded OH to let me raid the savings to buy the Snuza Halo http://www.snuza.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=11&Itemid=16&lang=en I considered the mats but this can be used in the moses basket unlike a lotta mats and can be taken anywhere without much hassle as its small plus ive not seen it get less than 4 outta 5 stars in reviews on any of the sites ive visited (and im the most anal retentive git in the world so ive REALLY read around) and at only a tenner more than the angelcare decided what the hell. Anyways im rambling im just wondering if anyone else had any experience with front sleeping and how it went for them - its not exactly something i reckon i could ask my hv about!!! Mainly im wondering about logistics like -sleeping bags, could i still use em withthe front sleeping or should i jsut pop blankets over her-im wondering how this would work with the Snuza anyway its a 85 decibel alarm so pretty loud but i woldnt wanna muffle it with the bag and not hear it-opinions on a postcard? -Head raising, im currently raising the head of the moses to try and keep her acid down do you think i should still do this

hey hun, my humble opinion, i would mebbe ditch the bags, sleeping on her fron she probably doesnt thrash around much as back sleeping so sheet/blanket should be fine. head raised, up to you i reckon, try it down and see how she goes, if needs be it can always be raised again. Good luck, we have had many a discussion about this, you know your baby Lise better than anyone else. your kid, your ways remember

I havent heard of the snuza before so no idea what there like. Callum slept on his front from 2weeks old he wudnt sleep on his back atall so one after noon i put him down on his front and he slept cudnt believe it. I started to put him down on his front for naps & at night i did worry at first but i kept checking on him he was always fine head always to the side never face down it was summer so he didnt have anything other then a small blanket if it was chilly. I did use sleepnig bags in the winter when he slept on his front with no problems. I actually said to the hv he has slept on his tummy she said she wasentaloud to agree with me as of telling you the bottom of the cot on the back way but if hes doing that much better to carry on. x

we had a nightmare with eli sleeping on his back, but i stuck with it cos i just couldn't sleep otherwise and would be awake in those precious moments when he wasn't just checking on him. i would just see how it goes with the bags/blankets, you will know after a night or two if a blanket will get kicked off. i would still raise the basket as the acid will still creep up even if not as much... i also used to used rolled up cellular blankets in elijah's moses basket as so but on his side obviously and tucked under his feet so he couldn't go back or forwards: and let him sleep during the day on his side which helped, im sure it would have been better and night and he never sleeps on his back now. it will be hit or miss but if you feel confident with the monitor and can sleep then definitely go for it cos im sure it will help

I wouldn't have thought the sleeping bag would muffle the alarm. Your hv might help. I thought they sometimes suggested front sleeping for reflux anyway so you could always ask her in an I read this kind of way and see what she says if you don't want to tell her you're doing it

I know it's different because Amelias constantly atached to wires but the hospital ave her sleeping and taking feeds on her belly because of reflux. The nurse told me it's the best position for them and if she still prefers it when shes home then they'll release her with an apnea monitor, which im assuming is basicaly the same thing.

Well when I was a baby the common advice was to front sleep to avoid asphyxiation. And I'm still here...

my mum said the same, we were all put on our tummies...and awen is a strong little monkey, i think if she had been poorly/very early maybe you need to be more concerned. hope the alarm turns up tomorrow though so you can get some rest

Me too but it was free shipping so im not hopeful about them using a swift service! Im taking her to be weighed again tommorrow as her weight gain has been slow lately and may discuss it with hv anyway mone are fairly sensible and im not really asking their permission anyway as im planning on doing it no matter what. My kid my way ive decided. Think will try blankets and bags and just see what suits Kayleigh do you think you will take the monitor and let her front sleep? Even if she back sleeps will you use some kind of monitor anyway?

| I bought an angelcare before she was born so will use that f shes on her back but at the moment she's desatting when ever shes on her back and really dosn't like it.
I think I'll feel comfortable letting her belly sleep with a monitor, the way I see it is theres no way in hell the drs would reccomend it to me if it wasn't safe so I'm not too concerned |

Well i spoke to my HV yesterday about it. She said they arent allowed to condone it but id clearly thought it through and tried everything else and shes now gone from sleeping through 11-7 to waking every 2 hours. She also said SIDS is more of a risk in a baby who sleeps on its back but has smoking parents than a front sleeping baby in a non smoking household which i didnt know so she said as long as i had minimised every possible risk to do what i felt was right. She then said she had heard of the snuza and heard good things about it. So it arrived today and its actually really dinky. After her bath popped it on her nappy to the side so she doesnt lie on it and watch it for a bit and it was wrking well with a little light flash with each breath. I had also tried it beforehand on back of my hand with no movement and it does vibrate then alarm and its quite loud. ONce i got her vest on you can still se the light flash through the vest too. Got her jammies on and it holds the thing still lovely. Popped her on her tummy at bedtime ad she was asleep within 5 mins, ive checked on her a couple times and she is sleeping...well like a baby FIngers crossed!
