Lewis (11) came home from school today really distant, upset. He asked me not to have anymore babies... Being a bit confused by his comment I took him aside and asked what the problem was.. A girl in his class had been off last week (during sat week - which basically means she sat no exams and will start secondary school ungraded) I asked him why, thinking the school were collecting year 6's that were calling in sick.. It turns out her mum had passed away whilst in labour with her new brother - sadly mum passed due to complications and baby survived.. Sorry if this seems at bit morbid, but it really bought it home to me firstly, how short life actually is and how bloody dangerous child birth is.. Can't imagine having to deal with this The school are rallying around to try and help the dad and 2 other children at the school

Oh my god that is terrible! Iv just been posting about wondering where to have this LO and now I think my mind is made up for the big hospital in Belfast - I know in some circumstances there is nothing that medics can do but Im just so scared of taking risks now that I have Caitlin to think of. That poor poor family!

Thats so sad. Thats poor poor family I very nearly died having Ollie, it was very close, to the point where my family was called in to say goodbye to me. I went into my pregnancy knowing full well that I was basically gambling with both our lives but put my trust in the doctors when they said they could catch any problems early (lying bastards but thats a whole different thread) I had another placental abruption with Amelia and lost 2 and a half litres of blood but because I bled out I didn't go into DIC and have the clotting issues that occurred with Ollie. Which is what was really dangerous. It seems so weird to me that in this day and age people are stilll dying because of something as natural as childbirth.

Oh no how sad! A relation of mine died of a heart attack after giving birth. She was 16, I don't think it was preventable as nobody knew she had a heart condition. It's so very rare to die in childbirth. The relation of mine was a distant relation as it was my mums cousins daughter so icdidnt actually know her. It really really is rare to die in childbirth nowadays.

That's so sad, you just don't think of it happening in this day an age. I read a couple of weeks ago about a young woman who died from the same complications I had after a c section and that really scared me. The poor family
