I'm just applying for a few jobs and one of them states you must be able to work flexibly on a rota.

Does this mean you work different shits each week?

And if so, how would childcare be arranged for this? Would it be possible? Cos you have to have set days at nursery don't you?

Sorry if they're stupid questions but i'm clueless!

it usually means that you work different shifts and days each week, obviously its hard with childcare but sometimes its still worth applying and see if they can accommodate you. x

it might also mean that you do nights/on-call, this is one of the reasons i didn't go back to my job and it's hard for me to do shifts around hubby's shifts as we never know who is doing what very far in advance.

like pinky says though they may be flexible too.

Yeah generally it means you do your set hours eg 30 over the 7 day week including possibly evenings/nights... depends what job it is really.

In retail flexible on rota isnt so bad as USUALLY its maybe mon-fri 9-5 and 1 late night that changes each week, or you do a Saturday and get a random day off in middle of week. Some can be flexible eg if there is one day you def cant work.

I think it would get tricky but if it was random nights and you needing childcare overnight and then the next day while you slept. Working that out could be hard.

Nursery might not be as bad as you think. When I was enquiring about Tax credits and the childcare element when considering different jobs I was told that if you qualify for childcare (which Im pretty sure you will if work more than 16 hrs) they dont care if its nights/weekends/days etc. Eg you work full time hrs they will pay for full time nursery mon-fri 8-6. If you end up working evenings/weekends for some of your shifts could your mum take him and then dont send him to nursery whatever day you are off? It wont be costing you any extra and as long as nursery are being paid they wont care.

It's always worth applying and having a chat with them hun, it is difficult but sometime workable.

I was made redundant after my mat leave with Thomas because they changed my shift pattern during mat leave and I couldn't get childcare to fit around the new rota Sad Mad
