On the 4/5/11 i submitted my hours to return to work giving the required 8 weeks notice.

I have had to make a new flexible working request even tho i am already on a flexible working contract i will still be returning on the same hours but 1 different day.

So my area manager doesnt reply for 4 days i have to ask if he recieved it, when he does reply he asks me to attend a meeting last weds, but i was on holiday so by reply i told him this. NO REPLY from him

a week later i give him a list of other stores i am able to attend on the area that are within traveling distance. NO REPLY


the day before i go on holiday, i remind him that i am going on holiday, wont have internet access but am contactable on my mobile NO REPLY


i ring payroll to see if they have had any word from him of my return date, they havent!

this is now 4 weeks since i sent this info in, and 3 weeks til my SMP ends, i am raging and dont know what to do, i have sent one further email today but if this gets no response i am tempted to not bother contacting him again and just turn up on the day i should be back in work.

i want to ring HR but they are very pally with Area Managers and i dont feel i will get back up from them, they will probs just give him a nudge to contact me which could result in him taking a dislike to me ( he is a new AM for me he has started while i have been on mat)

any ideas anyone?

It sounds like he has his head stuck up his arse. If you think it will come back on you badly, i would just return on the day you have stated. He hasn't told you anything otherwise, and you have a clear audit trail of your contact with him.

I think if you dont hear anything back then i might email him after a couple of days and say you assume he is happy to accept your suggested work pattern given that he has not come back to you. Obviously you could work it in a very pleasant way! You could also say that you will be speaking to HR to check when your SMP ends (small fib) and would he like you to check with them if there is anything else you need to do about changing your hours. This way he can't think you are being a sly get and going over his head etc.

If I were you, I would just send a copy of the email you sent to him on to your HR Dept.

That is what I did with my boss, as he NEVER comes back to me.

I HAVE ABOUT 8 emails that he hasnt replied to, its really starting to get me down especially as i dont feel i can talk to HR

For anything like return dates I always email HR and my manager - in our place it is HR who sort out payroll. Have you tried phoning him? My manager is slow at replying to emails especially if everything is ok as far as he is concerned. And my HR sent emails and meeting requests to my work email which I couldn't access last time (I have a laptop this time).
They just don't think about the stress it may be causing you and that you may feel cut off.
