Since moving into our new house we keep getting refused for things that involve credit check. We've always paid bills on time, never missed a direct debit payment, we don't go into overdraft, so basically I'm pretty sure it's the house. We had a debt collecting letter when we first moved it for previous tenants, but got that sorted and debt collecting people said they'd record the change of address. Just today a red letter came through the door for previous tenant. Didn't open but could see the words "outstanding payment". Was from the water company so phoned and gave them previous tenants new address.
What else can I do though to make these credit check people realise it's not us, we have great credit history (apart from being young)?? How long is this going to last? Is there a way to clear this history from the house?
It's so annoying. We've missed out a really good deal on phone contract this weekend just cause of someone else's crap money management.

Get on the electoral roll hun. That can hold you back on credit.

Also, you can get a credit check with Equifax online for a one off payment of £2. They give you green and red boxes (such as not being on the electrol roll) so you know where you are at and why you are being refused it.

Hmm I'm not sure, when we bought one of our properties we had a letter from bailiffs about 2 weeks after we moved in threatening to repossess the bungalow because the previous owner hadnt been paying his mortgage, (we nearly had to go to court to prove we were the new owners and had just purchased the place Shocked ), but we have never had problems getting a mortgage/loans if we wanted them etc.

You can obtain a credit history report from Experian (I'm sure thats the name) to see if there are any issues with you. x

Thanks ladies. I've only recently sorted out getting on the electrol roll here so maybe it hasnt gone through yet. Will try getting the credit check thing and see what else we have to change.
