PostSubject: Comforters - Debate   Comforters - Debate EmptySun Jun 12, 2011 3:42 am

Aimee has Raggy (a My First Bunny Comforter from Mothercare). She has had it since she was born and she LOVES it.

We have managed to find a 'spare Raggy' online, but its not cheap (other kids obviously have Raggy issues too). Im worried that one day she will lose raggy and will have a total meltdown (esp with going on holiday and to hospital soon).

So, for any of you who have replaced or had a spare one, did your child know? I dont want to spend the money if she will take one look at it and know its not Raggy x

I havent but know a friend who did with her son (mummylaura). He had a blue baby/soft doll teddy that she bought spares of as 1st one was getting worn/dirty looking. He knew the difference! Even when they both washed he knew which one he loved the most.

I think he eventually took to the other one - but still had a preference. Guess it depends how worn original raggy is and how often she is used to getting it washed. I think the smell can be a major factor in them getting attached. Id wash the new one first and then maybe sleep with it in your bed for a few nights to get the smell of the house on it before doing a swap. As a child I remember being able to sniff clothes and I swear I could tell the smell of my own clothes from those at my cousins or grannys etc. Kids have noses like sniffer dogs! Laughing

i never got a double of edward tedward, who rich still sleeps with, but instead got him to put him in washer and to peg on line, but it can be hard for them watching teddy in the washer.

i'd imagine its to do with smell, as even after a wash some kids are not happy with teddy for a couple of days because of the smell of teddy

Aimee loves Raggy when he/she has just come out of the wash, so I dont think that side will be a problem.

Her Raggy is, erm, very worn, which is why I wonder if she will notice the difference. The other ones are all new and fluffy.

Chloe has brown bear and we have a spare, which she found, she took one look at it and said not brown bear and refers to it as 'brown bears mummy' we're trying to wear it out a bit so it looks as tattered as the original, but I think she will always know. I we leave him in the car or if we're out for the day he stays in my handbag until she wants to go to sleep x

Izzy has 2 nunus, that are the exactly the same, plus 'spare nu' who is very similar but not the same!

She used to not notice when I swapped over for a wash, but she does now.

Not long ago she got very upset that the one I gave her smelt clean and she didt want him,so I explained that the other one (she has been aware that she has 2 for some time) was in the wash and that when he came out he'd smell the same.
Bizarrely when he came out clean she couldn't wait to get him and snuggle him, so she obviously understood what I'd said!

I do OFTENwonder what would happen if we lost nunu, as he has gone from a bedtime buddy to more than that, which I admit annoys me - but he calms so many situations lol...she falls over, I pick her up and she asks for him....and then feels better!

Both mine are very very attatched to their Primarni blankies. They have 4 each and will not have any other sort of fleecy blanket. Thomas isn't too fussy and will use Hannah's as well but Hannah will only have her own and wont entertain Thomas'. It can't be a smell thing either coz they are constantly in and out of the wash - she must just like pink Very Happy

Amellia has a bunny that she calls Buddy, much to my annoyance! He's the only thing in her bed with her and it's always been that way. She loves him yet will give him up if asked and will take something else if I explain to her why she can't have bunny.

When we were in Cornwall she was sick and bunny copped it. I explained to her that he needed a wash because he got sick on him and she happily went to sleep with Izzy's monkey instead. She did ask for bunny occasionally but I explained again and she was quite happy with monkey.

I almost bought a very similar spare bunny the other day but didn't. I'm thinking I will next time!

O too has the primark blankies, he's had one since the day he was born to present. He loves them and they are so easily replaced lol
He has 6 blankies, but one of them I've had to cut up into 4 so they are his 'emergency nursery blankies'. He's totally not bothered either whether its clean or dirty lol.
Before he was born I bought him a bunny teddy from next in the hope it would be his fave teddy - erh! No! Rolling Eyes He keeps saying its mummy's bunny Laughing

My friends has a little girl and she has 'doggy teddy' who is nearly falling appart at the seams, but she will not give up on this teddy. She bought another identical one but her LO just knows Laughing

C has bedtime bunny and we bought a spare very early on so they could be interchanged and wore at the same rate. Eventually she figured it out after we left spare one out a few times (the first time was hysterical i have a photo of an incredibly delighted looking little girl with a bunny in each hand) and now we dont hide one and she adores both bedtime bunny and 'uffa bunny' equally.

My friend had a bunny when she was little that went everywhere with her and to this day she still sleeps with that thing. She is a 28 year old police woman now and the rabbit is just a head with no stuffing Laughing. We went to Nepal for 10 weeks working in an orphanage and the rabbits head even came there - it's a very well travelled rabbit's head Rolling Eyes . I have no idea what happened to the rest of it - must've dropped off over the years Neutral

Alfie has his blue bear comforter from asda. He has 2 which he uses on a day to day basis. at first he was chuffed with one, then i bought another and give it to him so he gets uised to it and now he likes having both of them.

I do have a spare one in hsi drawer tho and my mam has one at hers for when he sleeps as does my aunty. He easily takes to all of them. He loves blue bear more than anything in the world and crawls around with it hanging from his mouth like a little doggy with a toy haha. x
