Ok I have my first proper af since giving birth and its really heavy and painful. Is this normal and do they get better? I've been on the pill for 10 years and haven't had a proper period since I was 18 so a little concerned this is just what mine are like

Mine are quite heavy, always have been. They aren't painful though. It's hard to say if it's normal as everyone's are a little bit different. If you're concerned go to drs and they might be able to put you on a contraception that will help with heaviness and pain. x

I was on the pill and don't really want to go back on it (although if I'm like this every month I may rethink that). Just thought someone had said to me the first one after birth is worse but may have made that up

I can't remember my first one being worse, but then I had it 6wks after Immi was born so anything seemed better than the post birth bleed then. I think i've heard others say first one was worse though.

Sorry i've been no help!

I bfed for 9 months before my first af came back. The first one was embarrassingly heavy, so much so I leaked throught the tampax i chose to use. But the ones thereafter got less heavy and hurty, now back to normal pretty much with only a couple days of proper bleeding. (sorry tmi)

No thats really helpful thanks because that's basically what's happening to me. Am hoping I'll get one more before I go back to work. At the moment can hardly move with pain but seem to remember I always used to be like this and that's why I went on the pill
