Started weaning awen yesterday. Was a little off the cuff, id always planned to do it early at near on 17 weeks for her reflux but shes been watchng me eat and mimicing and leaning to get to food and had good torso and head control, then yesterday C opened a fromage frais then changed her mind so i kinda just thought, aye well....

She had about two spoonfuls yesterday so today she woke up hungry at 2 so gave her an ounce of EBM to take the edge off before starting the fromage frais. Ill be damned if the little bugger didnt have that ounce, an ENTIRE fromage frais THEN asked for breastfeed and had near on ten mins and all that only lasted her 2.5 hours before she started again. She uually feeds 2 hourly bu thought id get to maybe 3 today!

Anyway now im doing the mummy doubt thing cos i was so 'right on' with c and am being more relaxed with A and thinking maybe tommorrow she could have a bit of banana. Do you think it matters if you dont do the whole babyricecarrotpotato stuff etc. Im gonna make some purees i just havent gotten to it yet. Suppose i could go buy a carrot tommorrow or have potato in the house...am i drivingmyselfd nuts for nothing here

you do what you think is right. The whole porridge/cereal thingy is just a marketing opportunity for the baby food manufacturers I think. As long as the salt/sugar content is low, I dont see a problem. Dont doubt yourself, Awen knows what she wants xx

if she's already had some fromage frais then she already knows how to swallow and isn't that the whole point of baby rice to just teach them how to move food around and swallow?

I think as long as you watch for any signs of reactionsto foods then it doesn't really matter what you do or when you do it. I think taking a more relaxed approach is th best way Smile

IMO
you do what you feel is right for Awen i think i pureed and wasted it 2-3 times
we were a bit hit and miss with Edith as it affected her milk intake. so we would start/stop/etc.

I have been more relaxed this time around too

E had Banana after fromage frais and that was very early on kind of mashed rrather than pureed.

I have been far braver with Edith than i ever was with Alice and i remember at this age she was still on jars E hasnt had a jar in months and the only time she has them is if she is starving and i need to feed her quickly.

so in a nutshell, try her with allsorts, you will soon discover her capabilities.

be brave, stop doubting and have fun, BLW really is amazing. have you have a look at some of the sites?

Cheers ##

Well today she had a bf followed 20 mins later by half a pot of heinz apple and pumpkin and then 2oz ebm at 1030-11 and still was asking for bfing at 1315 so its not affecting her milk feeding!

Im gonna get on and make some purees at the weekend when i have neil around so i can have time to do it so gonna use fromage frais and fruit pots til then to tide me over.

Once she can grip and manouver a bit better ill probs switch to Mixing puree/BLW as i was dead keen on doing that when i was preg and was gonna hold off weaning til she was big enough to go straight for it, the reflux kinda knocked me off track a bit so now i can see me continuing with lunch for a while now maybe addking brekkie if she needs it but leaving off dinner cos the reflux is more mid afternoon so im trying to give her a full tummy at lunch to help her with that more than filling her, i actually have gotten used to 2 hourly feeding now so dont mind it. Once shes big enough for BLW ill add in a BLW dinner with a normal brekkie and lunch (by normal i mean puree). Think for her that might be the way to go

Guess i just needed some reassurance i was ok listeing to my instincts and not just being too blase about it all

One question though. When i weaned c she was formula fed and they reccomend she still got a mimimum 18-20oz formula which was never a prob, how do you quanitfy that with bfing? Do they reccomend so many feeds a day or just leave it. I dont see it being a problem but im curious

Woohooo!!! Go Awen!!

Sounds like you're doing a great job hun, it is difficult to know if they're getting the enough milk, I always worried with Libby.

In the early days I used to give her a feed then give her the 'solids' at least then I knew she was getting the same amount of milk before having the food.

I cannot wait to start Dexter!! xxx
