| I have a flash card app on my iphone and both kids love it. Thomas can recognise most of the pictures, shapes, colours and numbers now (we're starting on letters but not getting any where yet lol) and Hannah likes to try copy what Thomas says and can reconise a few of the animals already but just does the sounds rather than say the word - she can do quack quack for duck, yoooww for cat, uffff uffff for dog and eek eek for mouse so I don't think it's ever too soon to start trying things. Thomas took a lot longer to catch on than Hannah but I think that's because she just learns from him. I also have an app on my phone for Hannah that she presses a face or shakes the phone and a different animal pops up making the noises. My mum doesn't agree with me using my phone but the way I see it we live in that 21st century and they are gonna be brought up with technology so may as well start them early. We do have proper flash cards, jigsaw flash cards and loads of books with similar stuff which we look at all the time but they always sit longer and concentrate better on the phone app I think because they know they aren't allowed to use the phone alone so it's more exciting for them when they are allowed with me. xx |

| OOoh thats such a good idea to have an app on your phone. I'm going to have to get that. I have a pack of flashcards but Imogen just like the get them all out the pack and throw them around. She will occasionally use them for their proper purpose but most of the time she time she's bending them, throwing them, attempting to rip them etc so I've put them away for time being |

| We have some flash card that we got him about 1yr old, but only really started using them as flash cards at about 18mth old..by about 22mth he knew them all and used to grab the heart one, put it next to his chest and go 'bu-bum, bu-bum!' lol We also used the phone apps which were brilliant. They taught him all the domestic and wild animals and the noises they make and we had a shape app too that was brilliant. I agree with Debs it the fact that I believe they actually do pick it up easier and find it more interesting as the phones are usually a no-no Oliver actually know's how to get the lock off our phones now and knows how to access 'Mr Tumble' via my phone |

She prefers the small ones from ELC and knows nearly all of those
I have a DVD for shapes and colours (going to get numbers and letters soon) and she LOVES it! She now points out lots of shapes and colours and has only watched it in bits a few times! |

| We had flash cards for Tyler from about 15 months. He doesn't talk yet but he likes to throw all the cards on the floor and he will get the oen you ask him for. So he knows what all the words are he just won't say them |

| The ones from Elc are quite small Jo - so they dont feel the urge to rip them and they are quite solid! They are actually a pair game, but works much the same http://www.elc.co.uk/Picture-Pairs/116132,default,pd.html
I have some bigger ones size of playing cards and some even bigger and she doesnt rip...just bends them |
