Ive had it a long time but cant remember if ive had it all my life and not been aware of it til my 20s or it started in my 20s, I know its been the last 10 years ive really been aware of it though i didnt find out what it was until a few years ago and just assumed I was prone to ulcers. Its definately possible if youn were eating crisps or using strong mouthwash and triggered it. My common triggers are tomatoes or tomato based products, salt, pineapples or acidic fruit and pregnancy lol. But then so much can set it off and suddenly im eating something fairly innocuous and then my tongues all raw and painful.
Its when the top layer of skin sheds unevenly so you get patches where the new skins now fully grown in which may or may not be painful, i find its generally painless unless something irritates the new skin. Its called geographic tongue cos the patches of skin ook like continents and can even move around. Google image geographic tongue and theres some good piccies on there. C calls them my bubbles and will say mummy your tongue has bubbles again.
If it is that theres no cure for it but i find bonjela helps
