my brother calls me, all choked up, "lou, lou, becs having a fit...mum's crying, what do we do, she's got blue lips and is foaming at the mouth!!"
obviously i rush down there (get a lift from dad) and she's just coming around, urgent care paramedic is there doing all his obs, her heartbeat was 145-156 soooo fast!! so they sent her to hospital to be checked over...she's now had 2 in a year (the first one being last june, and now this one)
it's so upsetting though, as she's been through soooo much shite!!!!
poor mum too, seeing that...she apparently was bashing all over the floor and her eyes were rolling,

they're home now

So she's fine?

Sounds frightening for you all hon. I hope shes on the mend soon. Have they referred her to a neuro doctor to investigate the fits?

they should refer as theres medication to control them, my mom only had one every couple of years,

Stuart has pretty bad epilepsy. I dont mean to worry you but his started at 11.

Hopefully they will find the right combo of meds to sort it out. Stuart is one of the rare few that seems to have difficulty in finding that magic mix. Im sure they will sort your sis out. Most people with epilepsy rarely have seizures and control it by taking a few tablets a day. (If it is def epilepsy that is!)

As for your mum, that must have been horrible to watch. You feel so helpless and it is scary looking. However after a while you become more used to it. Now when Stuart has a fit im on auto pilot - moving Caitlin, holding him up, checking skin colour, timing fit, cleaning him up and putting him to bed etc. You do learn to deal with it and its only after sometimes that it hits you that it was a bad one. Your mum may be feeling worse today as adrenalin gets you through. What im saying is but if it is epilepsy you will all cope, you kinda have to, as crap as it is.

Hope your all feeling ok today and she has tests done to determine what to do next. xxx

how scary for you all

Mike had a couple of fits and was referred to nuero guys and was tested his tests all came back inconclusive and they based it on the fact 10 years ago he had a serious head injury where his face was rebuilt , he was put on meds for 6 months , i cant remember what they were im thinking something that sounds like lamotrigine ( i bet thats actually a preg related thing lol and im totally wrong ) ,, it began with an L anyways lol
he never bothered his backside to take the meds and thankfully touchwood he has not had a fit since ! however it is always at the back of my mind whenever i go out and leave him with kids and 1 of the reasons i insist on doing all the driving
do they have any idea whats causing them ? can you fit through stress ? is she ill ? could it have been a high temp fit ?
i hope they get to the nottom of it soon hun xx

Was it lamictal Michelle? Thats the brand name of of a type of tab Stuart takes. He says he knows what one you mean.

The head injury thing is a major factor in epilepsy (though I know not relevant to you lou). Stuart had irregular seizures from 11 but the at age of 20/21 he got beaten up and they became much more frequent and severe.

yeah she has epilepsy and takes meds every day, the medicine has been changed quite a few times, as each one she suffers with really bad side effects hair falling out, sickness, dizzyness etc etc
yesterday was the first time she's had one, whilst on meds, so thats why it was such a shock poor bugger!!!!
i'm down my mum's and she has her friend round atm (her friend has epilepsy too aswell) so thats some company for her...mum is calling specialist tomorrow to see what they have to say...they will probs just keep her on these meds and up them?? we'll see anyway.
just wish she could have a break from all this badness...epilepsy, slipped epiphyisis (sp) and to know at the age of 13 in the next few years you're going to need a full hip replacement must be sooo horrible for her

They may not change her meds tbh as 2 fits in a year isnt really that much. If the frequency increases they will look at it but thats fairly well ocntrolled really. Its unusual to manage a total cessation of fits even on medication. Hopefully its a one off though x

Oh no your poor sister. She really deserves a break doesn't she. Hope she feels better asap hun x

aww poor thing, my ex hubby had epilepsy and didn't fit very often on meds, maybe a couple of times a year, but it always scared the crap out of me, hugs xxx
