Does anyone here ever remember having an old banger for a car?? I don't mean just an older car with the odd thing wrong but a proper old banger??

My first ever car my Dad got me when I was 20. It was a Ford Fiesta and it had key for the driver door, one for the passenger door and another one for the boot...got very confusing. And you had put the key in the lock to open it and to get into the car and physically unlock every door that people wanted to get use.

It had 'council' windows, not electric, but you couldn't open one of the back ones cos it wouldn't close....I spent 2 weeks driving round with it open slightly cos I couldn't close it until my Dad sorted it.

It also had a manual choke that you had to pull out when you first started it...then pump the clutch a couple of times to get it going and until the engine warmed up you had to pull out and push in the choke everytime you sped up or slowed down. The gear stick was really long too and there was never any moulded plastic around the dashboard and gear stick like in cars today just carpet!! LOL

ooh pepper i had a fiesta too, a D reg fiesta festival, it was the slightly curved one (only slightly mind not new shape) it was rusty with patches of white on it hehe!

it had a choke too, and the gear stick was about 6 feet long (or seemed it)

it cos £125 and i got a red one chucked in with that for spares.

it did me a full year tho and i only had to have rac once when i left the lights on at white rose when i was at work.


i sold it for £120 too, Bonus!!!!

I never had an old banger my first car was a brand new Micra when I was 23.
I paid for it with used notes that my BIL had lying around and wanted rid of.

My first car was a White mk 1 golf! And it had manual choke and windows! It's reg was KUR 848Y and I loved it, even when it occasionally stopped and you had to run round open the bonnet and smack the fuel filter bit with a hammer to get it going again!

i had a rusty clio.
If you didnt scrub the seats every couple of months it went mouldy, it was a couple of colours with half the plastic bits hanging off around the car.
The fan never worked so it overheated incredibly quick, and once i burnt it out in lincoln so had to get the old breakdown recovery out!
But it did last me 2 years, with a lot of driving, and i only got rid because we couldnt afford to run both cars when we moved in here, and it cost me absoloutly nothing, but i got £60 scrappage from it! lol

also it had a dodgy cd player in, which would only play maybe two cd's. Stonesour and Korn was all it would play!!
