Christmas dinner _
PostSubject: Christmas dinner   Christmas dinner EmptyThu Aug 18, 2011 6:37 pm

Im hoping to have the family to mine again for Christmas as I can't face being organised enough to take Tyler and a 4 week old to my mums for they day... so

been trying to think what I can cook as a start and desert, last year I did carrot, sweet potato coconut soup but they all liked it so much I had to give them the recipe lol so I don't want to cook it again - my mum is a vegetarian... something simple or something I can cook in advance would be ideal!

Also - do you think it's ok to cook the turkey the day before and leave it in the fridge over night and just serve it cold obv with hot gravy it will warm up, I don't want it to go dry and horrible though... would just make it a bit easier!

What else can we cook in advance? I was going to do cauli cheese but make and freeze the cheese sauce in advance so it doesn't take up so much time on the day.

No point asking me either. Im hoping that my mum sends us dinner over. Usually my mum sends the meats cooked and I reheat in micro, MIL sends carrot/parsnip mash & stuffing that I micro and then I bung in microwave mash and put roasties, parsnips into oven.

This year I will have a baby thats literally days old so I wont look as lazy as I usually do! Laughing

Oh and soup sounds good. What about red pepper and butternut squash soup? WW do a recipe and its yum.

As for desert we usually buy a pavlova/sticky toffee pudding from freezers in Tesco.... Can you tell I aint a cook lol!

I'd say do another soup for starters.
Turkey, we hosted christmas dinner year before last but i made my mum do the turkey and she did it the day before. I think she then carved it, and we reheated it. She put gravy on it to keep moisture in.

I always cook the meat the day before so that sholdnt be a problem, the gravy will warm it up and make it all moist (that word always seems dirty lol) also when i make cauli cheese i always make a extra and freeze it so you could make the whole thing in advance not just the sauce, carrot and swede mash you could pre make and freeze or chill just add a bit of butter when you serve nomnom , you could do a bruschetta (sp) with pesto or something for starter but a soup would be best as not to filling to save space for roast Smile

I might have to do a soup and just test out some new recipes Smile

pudding I thought I could do choccie cupcakes and try and make them look like Xmas puddings with the white icing and some green holly Very Happy

of course come the time if i can't be assed I'll be buying something from the shop and passing it off as my own. I do have emergency mars bar cookies that are pretty easy to make if all else fails hehe

snoopy I looooove cooking but that's easy to say now - not when I have a newborn. I couldn't even feed myself when I got home with Tyler so god knows how I'll cope this time!

glad we can do turkey the day before though means we have more room for roast potato and parsnip my favourite nom nom.
