| what age do you think its acceptable to let kids go on the street to play?? i dont let leo yet, he will sometimes nip to the postbox for me(outside nextdoors garden lol) but i dont think id be comfortable with he going out and playing on the street by himself! maybe it would be different if he had schoolfriends on our street but all the kids round here seen to be older and noone from his school nearby!
on the other hand theres a house down the street and kids as young as 3 riding their bikes down the road, kinda makes me wonder if im being too cautious (i know 3 obvs is a bit extreme)
what age do you think is acceptable to let kids play/ride baikes on the street?? x |

| I think it depends entirely on the street and if you can sse them. Where my mum lives they've all lived there for 16/17 years moved in when the houses were first built and no ones left so obviously everyone knows everyone so theres always someone watching and as its a culdesack no traffick. I'd be happy to let Amelia out to play there at around 5. |

| yeah thats a good point, the house i lived in as a child was a culdesack and i remember playing out when i was about 4 lol, but everyone knew everyone!!
iv lived here about 5 years now, i dont really know the neighbours that well only to say aup to, and we do get knobs driving up and down the street, so i guess that has a lot to do with why i dont feel comfy with it yet! x |

| I've only just started letting Ryan go out the front and he has to stay in our street. I'm not sure if i'm being over protective or not? |

| I always thought I was fairly laid back, but i was reading about some murdered children the other day and completely freaked myself out and decided I never want Imogen to leave my sight!
But rationally I guess I know i'll have to some day. I don't think it will be till she's at least 6 or 7. There's a park and field literally next door to our house so I'd consider letting her go there at first as I'd be able to keep an eye on her. |

| the boys play out on the street but it is a very quiet and everyone knows everyone and i am still paranoid, they have to stay where i can see them and if they are going in to their friends house (across the road) they have to tell me, they have been going out for about the past year x |

| The answer is no we dont allowrich to play out, purely because he lacks common sense, we do let him walk to shop, but hes got my mobile and we know where he is, russ would like him to go out but ive seen how vunerable he is so more safety work to do first |

| My eldest plays out but is going to secondary school in Sept so need to loosen reins slightly He went out to play just before his 9th birthday as a couple of girls from his class were already playing out and I felt mean. He now goes off to the park, down to the local shops and has once been to the big shops (about 1/2 mile away). I don't drive so don't let him too far, but far enough iykwim Owen is 6, I live in a quiet turning and during the day, during the holidays I allow him out on his bike or scooter if Im either a) in the front garden or b) sitting at computer as it currently is on my dining table looking out the front window I have left him to play with his friend but his only allowed from house A to house B, not in the road, no across the road and I'm forever up the window..oh and they have to be noisy so I can hear them yep my neighbours love me.... NOT! |

| I can't imagine letting Oliver play out front here till he's 16+ lol We currently live in a rear back to back so I couldn't see him if he was playing out front. I was brought up on a fairly quiet street and was only aloud to play out front of our house and the neighbours either side. When I was 10ish I used to go across the road to my friends, but always had to tell my parents where I was going. But that was 20yrs ago, I can't see me being like that with Oliver. We live on a really long lane but they drive like nutters round here and would never feel at ease if he was playing out front no matter what age he was. If we lived in a quieter area, cul-de-sac etc I would probably feel a bit more relaxed if I could see him out front when he got a bit older. We have kids playing on our street and I sware they are only a yr older than Oliver and they are out there till gone 11pm!! I know its the holidays but omg |

| lol I was thinking the same Zee......its a scary thought! Where I am now though....actually would be never as there is a roundabout outside as we are along a road that goes straight into town its quite busy. If I was in a side street I'd consider it at about 10 Poor Izzy! |

| It depends on the individual child and the place that you live. I've never lived in a quiet cul de sac so none of mine have been allowed out until they were 10 or 11. But when they were invited to play at friends houses who lived in quiet cul-de-sacs etc they were allowed from 6 or 7 (as long as the mummy kept an eye on them).

| no absolutely not whilst the road I live on is a private road it's only say 5 houses long and the end where our house is connects to the main road - it's on a corner on a hill and the cars zoom around the corner. so no I don't think I'd ever let Tyler out there to play.
If we were at my old house in Jersey Id let him out at around 6 or 7 probably but unfortunately for him we're in Cyprus where the drivers are nutters lol. |

| mine are out loads and sometimes i dont see them again till they are hungry ! we live in a small town though and they would have to be on outskirts of town to be near main road they know their boundaries though i forbid them to go near the harbour/beach without adults mine are 10 and 11 and they have been out playing for a good few years but only around the street and surrounding streets until recently there is no madneess up here like in big cities and i guess our traffic flow would be what big city people would call bliss so i do feel quite safe when my children are out |

| I don't think I would until he was at least a teenager. However, at the moment we're in the middle of the town centre surrounded by the railway and busy roads. If we lived where I grew up then it would probably be younger as its quieter and there's other people around that would keep an eye out for the kids |
