Do I/Don't I? _
PostSubject: Do I/Don't I?   Do I/Don't I? EmptyFri Aug 26, 2011 2:00 am

We decided not to bother buying a double pushchair as Immi is really good at walking and we thought if we go out for long periods it tends to be both of us out so I'll push one and Matt can push the other. However the last 2weeks we've taken Imogen out a couple of times without a pushchair and it's been a complete nightmare. She's refused to hold our hand, run off, picked up everything little things in sight and randomly sat down in the middle of the pavement for a break and had a tantrum if either Matt or I have attempted to get her up. She's just so independant she sees it as opportunity to do what she wants rather than listen to us.

So now I'm thinking crap if Matt and I together had a hard time controlling her, then how am I going to do it on my own? I thought we'd be ok for short little trips but these last few times have just made me see it will probably be a nightmare. I've started doing a lot more in the week as well as I've made friends with people in the town and started going to play group with Imogen so there's going to be more times we'll be out and about on our own. Also with the weather changing, is it going to be even harder to get her to walk well if it's raining or she's freezing cold.

So what do I do, get a double pushchair? I've seen a mothercare hoxton and a cosatto duet lite on ebay that are £20 and £35 atm, no bids yet ending tomo and next day. Do I bid?

YES!

I (well my mum) got a double on ebay but it was about £80 so they sound like bargains - check postage/courier but.
I thought my mum was nuts at the time thinking Id need a double, but like Immi, Caitlin has decided that being free from buggy means lets run away/pick things up/ throw a paddy if we have to leave somewhere. I just cant be dealing with that if im in town on my own with her in a rush to get the baby to the Dr or something. Also the weather too. Even if Caitlin becomes a bit more co-operative come Dec time I cant really expect her to walk nicely through ice/snow so she would be safer in the double.

Im still keeping the travel system from when Caitlin was teeny and aim to use it on days when Stuart is with us and he can chase Caitlin - kinda gradually monitoring how she is out of pram when I have help, but at least the double is there for when I need it.

Im not sure what the prams you've saw look like but mine is a side by side. At first I wasnt keen as it doesnt fit through front door, but I dont really see the point in forking out £300-400 for a fancy double that ideally is only going to be used for 6months or so.

Tara you are brave! Laughing

When caitlin started walking she would have co-operated too. Its just the terrible 2's I think and not really to do with her actual ability to walk long distances, more like her willingness/temperment & the fact she wont go were I want!

I've thought about buggy board, but its hard to get ones that fits on a quinny zapp xtra well (pushchair we have) and when I've asked people about using them all i've got is bad reviews which has made me a little reluctant.

I think if it stays on £20 I'll bid as really even if i use it 3times it's not that much money. It's not too far so can collect it so won't have to pay courier.

If you're against having a double, how about a baby sling/carrier so that when immi gets tired or is naughty you can pop her in the buggy and carry baby in the sling?

^Oh yeah, hadn't thought of that! Will have to look into getting a carrier, i borrowed one with Immi but hated it, think it was just a crappy make though.

I hadnt thought of a carrier either. Stuart wanted one when Caitlin was born but I had to talk him out of it as I thought it would be way to bloody dangerous for him to use.

Are they easy enough to get a baby in and out of yourself but if you out and about on your own with a toddler? Im probably being really dim imagining you put baby in it 1st and then attempt to strap it to yourself! Laughing

I had on with Chloe and loved it, it was great when she was moany, as I could cuddle her while getting on with other things. some are easier than others to get on and off so it's best to go and try a few out, the slings are easier when they're tiny, but the carriers are better when they get a bit bigger, the one I had you put the carrier on yourself first then just lifted baby in and clipped in, it's really easy

I would get one hun, that is the exact reason I got a double because I can' guarantee what mood Tyler will be in and when he gets bored or tired he just sits himself down and won't budge. I had visions of me trying to balance Tyler on the top of our pram with the baby in it just to get him back home so the double was a must,

I thought about a sling carrier too but there are so many out there all with mixed reviews that I thought id rather just get the pram!

We got that carrier and although we like it for a bit of time, after a while he needs to in pushchair, it is comfy, id have a double, you can always sell it later, but you know is she tired or being a monkey, you put her in it, plus extra seat for shopping if she happy to walk

Lol... you just described Aimee... and I hate to say it, but Aimee is 6 months older than Immi and she still isnt getting any better Rolling Eyes.

That said, I do have a double buggy, but I dont use it much... but thats because I tend to drive everywhere and then wherever I am, somebody else will be with me so they can look after Aimee while I push Lily.

I would get the double buggy if you do plan on walking, even to the shops.

I think I'm going to have to get a double then. We only have one car at the moment and I don't think we'll be getting another any time soon, Matt uses it to get to work so I don't have transport, apart from walking.

E is two and a half and h 17 months. We have a double and too be honest I couldn't live without mine. I needed it to start as the girls were 13 and a half months apart. We do a lot of walking and e can't be trusted not to run off. If you can get one it would be worth investing I think x

i vote no.

Braden was 15 months old and he's walked everywhere since... He is an absoloute little sh*t sometimes but he needs to learn, they are gna be little buggers whenever you let them out the pushchair so might aswell get her out of it and use reins/holding on to pushchair and punishment for bad behaviour..She will eventually walk beside you nicely....It is hard work to start with.

As much as I agree with niccsy, I have found my double a god send. With a newborn the last thing you will have time or energy to do is get Izzy to behave while walking. Especially if you have no car. Even if you only used it for a few months it would be a bargain. Hannah is a nightmare at min with walking, sounds just lime you said. And she still likes to walk but has the option a) depending on where we are and b) if she's tired she can just jump in, and she has asked quite a few times. Especially on boring walks, like the shops. Xxx

I'm still on the search for one too! At the moment if i have to go out on my own (very rare, thank god!) I have Milo in his buggy and Noah in his sling. It works at the moment but as Milo is quite heavy it is tough going over bumpy ground/slopes etc. Good for arm muscles though!

This is the carrier we have,
http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_31_10751_-1_14564_90629_10001_14564

got one for a few quid on ebay, and it's actually really good. I put it on first then slide Noah in, and take him out either way, depending on how much space I have. Good luck with the double buggy search, let me know if you find a good one!

I get what you're saying Niccsy and ideally i'd like not to use one and for Imogen to behave when walking but I wonder how easy i'm going to find it. Totally admire you for just using a single with a 15month old as well.

I guess for £20 if I only use it a few times its not exactly a waste and could sell it on. I'd never buy a new one

I think if I walked alot more (I'm a lazy moo Laughing ) then I probs would of got a cheap double. I worry terribly about going on my own anywhere with them both - so much so that I've not taken them out myself, thankfully Simon only works in the mornings so if I need to go anywhere either we all go or I go on my own in the afternoons.

For the sake of £30-£40 I would get one, you could probably re-sell it for the same anyway.

I found when I was pregnant that the mummies with younger siblings Seb's age all didn't want to sell their doubles as they were still using them. It was a bit of a no-brainer for us as we're 20 min (adult pace) walk uphill from town / swimming pool / playgroup / Surestart centre. We have a buggyboard too now but we only use that for 10 min trips to nursery / friends or for longer trips if I have another adult with me to help with Seb, otherwise the reins / buggy / lampposts etc all end up getting tangled up and people trip over me on the narrow pavements in town. The 2nd seat is also very useful for carrying bags etc when Seb is walking e.g. when we go out for picnic in a park.

We also used a front carrier a lot for going in the garden, going round at playgroup, going round Sainsburys' when Anna grizzles in the trolley seat. We had a 2nd hand one for Seb which was a false economy as it wasn't very comfortable, so got a Baby Bjorn this time round which was miles better.

And we have a rucksack carrier for now that she can sit up which we use for countryside walks that the buggy can't cope with.

In short we have everything and we use it all. Some weeks they only go in the car once though, for the Sainsburys' trip. We walk whenever possible.
