Hyperthyroidism _
PostSubject: Hyperthyroidism   Hyperthyroidism EmptyWed Sep 07, 2011 6:11 am

Hey ladies,

It's been awhile since I've posted on BANDA, but I need you now!

Does anyone have hyperthyroidism? I was diagnosed a few weeks ago. I noticed I was losing a lot of weight, which was awesome, as I was pretty overweight. I have lost 35lbs, in about 3 months. However, since the doc put me on Tapazole a couple of weeks ago, I've already gained back 5lbs just this weekend. I have a lot of side effects, like heart palpitations (which I am on a med for now), tired, wide awake at night, tremors, irritability (and so irritated, I got mad at my OH for swallowing too loud, gack!). I have a referral to an endocrinologist, but have not seen her yet. I feel like I'm going hypo now, because of the meds, but can not get in to see my doc again until next monday. I'm super tired, gaining back weight, cold, still irritated though, and still getting the heart palps if I don't take the meds for them. It seems like all my symptoms are mixed up now, and I'm getting really frustrated. I feel like things were better when I wasn't on the tapazole at all. I didn't have the heart palps then, and was happily dropping off weight that I really needed to lose. I did have issues with sleeping, but I still do now anyway.
I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for me. I can't work out rigorously, as my heart won't like it, but I really don't want to gain the weight back. I have a 22month old, and really can't afford to not have energy for him. I actually fell asleep on the couch in the middle of the day the other day, and I haven't done that since I was pregnant.
I'm really frustrated, and am seriously considering going off of the tapazole. I just want my life back, without getting fat again! I threw all my fat clothes in the basement last week, which was a good thing. Except that now I might need to go get them back again.
My OH and I would really like to have another baby, but apparently there are a lot of risks involved in TTC while hyper, or hypo. I'm not getting any younger, so would like to get this stuff figured out. Grrr. Any help or advise is really appreciated!!!! Thanks!!

Sorry Hun not much advice, but my mate had this for years and her weight goes up and down like a yoyo, she's irritable, but she always says the worst is the tiredness, although she has m.e. Too.

I'd go back to docs and ask if there is any other meds you can take

I do know she conceived with this and I don't think she took any meds for it, she has now had the thyroid hand removed and is ok.

Not much hlp sorry

No worries. Most people have hypothyroidism, not hyper, so the information is so random. my body says get off the tapazole, but the doc says no. Not sure what to do at this point.

i would say if your instincts are saying to come off it, its worth at least asking to discuss alternatives? i don't know anything about tapazole but surely there is something else that you could at least try...i would put it to your gp and see if they have any suggestions (or is that a really naive answer, sorry if it is Laughing)

Thanks ladies! I know all about the memory loss. Geez, it's crazy! I have a doc appointment on Monday, and I will let him know I'm going off of the tapazole until we get some blood work done again. other than a few symptoms, I felt better off the meds.
Apparently I would have a really hard time keeping a baby if did get pregnant. I lost a lot of weight, so I'm sure a baby wouldn't get the nutrients needed to survive. Gotta get this figured out ASAP! By the way, I'd like to lose at least another 20lbs still....
