Hey ladies. For the past month or so alfie has been getting extremely clingy to me in particular. He was always fine when i dropped him off at nursery but for the last few weeks he's been sobbing his heart out hysterically every time i leave him. He's slept out most weekends since he was a new born yet wouldn't settle at all for my mam when he slept there. He's also permanently attached to me in the house. I can't wash the dishes or cook without is snuggling into my crotch! When he's playing in the living room he is constantly checking i'm still there and even if i go to the loo he runs after me and wants to be cuddled while i'm having a pee. Is this just a phase do you think? I'm always encouraged him to be independent. He is teething atm too. He's got 12 atm and i can see number 13 and 14 coming through so was wondering if this could be related?x

It could be related if he's feeling a poo with his teeth. I've always found Oliver slips in and out of these phases of clingyness, they never usually last too long, usually just a couple of weeks.
My advice would be just to give him a big squeeze before you go off to do anything for any length of time and explain that you will be back for him. When your done go back and give him 5mins undivided attention just to offer that reassurance. Hopefully won't last long.

Olivers back at school tomorrow and I'm really dreading it Sad He's been reeeeally clingy with me since the EP so leaving him tomorrow is goin to be hard and today he's woke up with a cold Sad

Also just to add, when you've give him a squeeze and off to do what you need to do...if he still carries on crying try to ignore it but keep reassuring that 'mummy's just got do this [job] and I'll be right back with him'.

Imogen generally is a really independant little girl but since March time she's got really clingy, I decided it was just a phase probs brought on by the changes - moving, preg etc. She's just starting to come out the phase now, altho probably with Josh's birth she'll get clingy again.
I do a lot of reassuring with her, and pre warning, like if I need the loo I'll be really direct and say 'Imogen Mummy is going to go have a wee, will you be ok here?' or 'Immi, Mummy's going to get a drink, can you wait here' etc and I always make sure I get an 'ok Mum' before I leave. This seems to work well as she always feels reassured about where I am and a bit in control I guess.

Alfie did the exact same. He LOVED nursery at first and would run in without looking back. He was only in once a week then but when i started working and he was in 4 he started doing this, that was about 2 months ago and he's just got better now.

Is he going to nursery or anywhere more often now? Could just be the fact he's taking some time to get used to spending more time away from you?
