| My mum has an odd looking red mark on the bridge of her nose for months so finally went to the doctors about it (she thought originally her glasses were rubbing that area so didnt realise what it was). She said it was a Carcinoma and referred her to the hospital.
So, they took it out yesterday and the surgeon said that it was deeper than he had originally thought and that they would know more when they got the results back from the lab.
She doesnt deal with local anasthetics well as they make her vomit, so she didnt ask any questions about it.
Has anybody heard of them? x |

| It's cancerous growth, so I assume they have sent it for a biopsy (or whatever they do once its off) to find out if its nasty or benign? |

| Well, this is what im confused about. When she first saw the consultant who was taking it out, he said that only 5% of them come back 'dangerous' and that he normally has a good idea which ones are bad by looking at them when he takes them out. So... yesterday after he took it out he said 'well, it was deeper than we had originally thought' (took 45 mins to remove and 6 stitches) and mum asked what he thought of it and he replied 'well, lets just wait for the results' . To me, that doesnt sound good, but without hearing it with my own ears its impossible to gage what his tone was. Mum felt too sick to ask anything else and just went home . x |

| I think its silly of him to say to a patient what he thinks of a growth before its taken out, surely he should be dealing in facts and hold off saying either way til he knows,,,,,if your mum wasn't led to beleive it would be 'good' and knew she wouldnt know the results til the tests came back she probably wouldnt worry as much as now him saying it wasn't what he expected! |

| Exactly. She wasnt worried at all, and nor was I, which is why I didnt go with her to the hospital. I would have gone with her if I had known that there was a chance it wouldnt be ok.
I think I will get her to ring the hospital in a couple of weeks (they said if she hears within 3 weeks then its not good) and chase the results x |

| My Nan had a similar mark on her cheek, just where the rim of her glasses sat. She had it removed twice. It was skin cancer but she didn't need any further treatment. As they removed it in full each time. I hope your Mums comes back clear and if not is as easy to treat as my Nan's xxx |
