| Imogen had her 2yr check today. Not sure if everyone's is like this but I didn't expect it to be a group thing. There were 3 other kids with their Mums and we all sat in a circle with kids playing around us. HV asked a load of questions to us as a group and we just chipped in with info about our children. I personally found it all a little awkward as I didn't really want to raise any issues or say too much in front of the other Mums. It's not that I don't like talking to other Mums about Immi but it just seemed quite awkward talking about my child for ages when they were there for their children. I mean did they really want to sit there and listen to HV tell me ways to encourage Imogen to let me help her brush her teeth when all their kids already let them help. At the end HV signed the red book and told me she had no concerns about Imogen, which is great, but not sure how she could make an informed decision, she didn't even speak to Imogen. At one point she made a comment about not having observed the colouring table (it was behind us) and this was where Immi was most of the time so she can't really have observed Imogen. Oh well I'm not too bothered as I'm happy with Imogen's progress, it just made me think that something could easily have been missed, especially if a parent was too shy/embarassing to bring a concern up in the group environment. |

| Seems like a bit of a waste of time to me, I wouldn't have raised any issues in front of other people cos Id just be so embaressed to talk up in front of people so if I did have any issues I had planned on raising I dunno what Id do! |

| What an odd situation, I dont think it is a suitable way to do 2 year checks at all!
Izzy hasnt even had one, but if thats what it is I dont want to go, tbh Im not sure I'll go anyway as I have no concerns at all about her |

| That sounds rubbish! Most people won't want to discuss any concerns about their child infront of others and the hv wouldn't be able to properly pick up on anything whilst there are a few children to observe as well as speak to their mums xx |

| I had Isla's last week, which was an individual session. Although it did explain in the letter that in some areas they are run as a group session.
Basically the nursery nurse checked her weight, height, whether she could build a tower, name animals, do a shape puzzle and count the bricks.
I assume it would have been apparent if any of the children had severe behavioural issues or couldn't communicate, which are really key for a 2 year old, but like you say, possibly a bit of a waste of time x x x |

That is what I was expecting, as her 10month check was similar to what you've said but this was very different. I guess the toys they choose to put out were probably for a purpose but there really didn't seem to be a lot of observing. She didn't talk to the children once and pretty much ignored them and just spoke to us. |

| We dont get 2 year checks. Caitlin had one at 4 months and then gets a pre school one at around 4.
That sounds crap but. Just looking at what bumpwatcher said.... Caitlin can name animals including obscure ones like shark/panda/turtle etc but im not 100% sure she could do a shape puzzle, she has no flipping patience. When doing jigsaws she rams at them and then says 'your turn mummy'. Maybe she could but it would take her a while. She can name shapes eg star (thanks dora!), triangle, circle and square. Oh and she's know all her colours since before she was 2.... But counting... no chance. Caitlin cant count at all!!!! Is that odd? I may post in todddlers about this... |
