| Following on from 2 year check post.. At what age could your toddler...
Name shapes Point to & say colours Count
Caitlin has been able to identify stars for 3-4 mths thanks to Dora lol (so 22 months maybe). Triangle, square and circle have been in last cpl of weeks (26mths)
Colours Caitlin has been pointing to and naming from about 23 months - red/blue/green/yellow/orange/purple/pink/black/white/brown. My mums says by that age I could identify between light blue and dark blue but I havent bothered teaching Caitlin that yet.
Now the thing im worring about is counting. Caitlin cant twig on to this at all. She will pretend to count by repeating a number over and over again eg getting toys and pointing to each in turn and saying '3, 3, 3, 3'. If you ask her what age she is she will say 'im 2' but thats a learned reply not a concept. I think iv read a few things on here of kids similar age counting to 5 or 10 and Caitlin cant evn manage 1, 2,3. For a while at 18mths she would say 2 after I said 1 but she hasnt really progressed....

| Tyler has literally in the past 3 or 4 weeks started counting, knowing and saying and pointing out colours and shapes but he is at nursery 5 mornings a week and they said they do counting all the time, everytime we go up or down the stairs we count them so he hears it all the time.
I personally think at 2 it's quite early for kids to be able to count!
Tyler did the same as Caitlin his number of choice is 4, and everything was four for ages, he would sit at the top of his slide and go four four four gooooooooo (one two three to him) Im sure one day she will do what Tyler did and sit ther and count to 10 on her own and amaze you! |

| tbh I can't remember. Colours are a bit hit and miss at the moment. Sometimes he gets it perfect all day but then other days it's like he can't be bothered and just makes a random guess. Counting - he can count to twenty easily. And has been able to do that since he was 28mth'ish. Shapes- he's known circle, square, star, and triangle since he was approx 26+mth. It's only been recently (past month) that he's got hexagon, diamond, crescent and rectangle too and can randomly point them out when asked. He can also say his alphabet which he's learnt over the past month. He's not so good at recognising the actual letter or number though, we've just started tackling that one at the moment. |

| Sophie has just gone two and she can easily count to 10 and can count to 20 but doesn't like 13 and 16 atm, she actually surprised me as I said 21 the other day and she said 22 I think she twigged that is was 1234 etc but twenty in front.
She can do her abc song but can't recognize them written down.
Shapes she knows star, square, circle, triangle but struggles with crescent and hexagon ( have an app on iPad with colours and shapes etc on) she also knows diamond and heart.
Colours she only really knows green, blue, pink but the others are hit and miss but she knows that black, orange etc are colours.
If she learns well from the Telly, you said she learnt star from Dora, there is a program that my 2 will sit and watch which is team umizoomi it is all about maths, so shapes, numbers and patterns etc
Caitlin sounds like she is doing fine! I always find that older generations say we did things quicker.

| Colours are fine as long they're pink or green or yellow she gets these right but calls all others green.
Shapes, she's quite good thanks to her cookie jar shape sorter
She pretends to count, she can't really count and has no idea about numbers and how many there are. If I start to count she'll join in but doesn't always get it right.
I'm very pleased with her progress as my other two kids could hardly talk before they were two - hehe they sure make up for it now! |

| Colours she knows and will tell me or point out: red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple, brown, pink, black, white, silver - I've not gone in to any more complication than that yet.
Numbers she can count to 20 with me..although only to ten if she is doing it on her own..and not always, if she cba she sops at Seman lol
Alphabet - she can say them all when singing the alphabet song, if I say do your ABC then she says ABCDEFGH and then just random ones..but strangely if you do the alphabet and pause she often says the next one. Can can also go through the whole alphabet and I say 'A is for' and she says Apple, 'B is for' Ball...etc etc (but only the words that she has learnt to associate with that letter...like she wouldn't reply that C was for Cow ...cos its cat how we learnt it lol
Shapes she knows square, rectangle, triangle, circle, line, star, moon, heart, diamond, rhombus (lol - its an american thing she learnt that off, and thankfully only says it in answer to that App!) |

| I don't really remember his age I think around Feb/Mar he couldmdo the following
Count to 16 (he refuses to count past 16 with me) but I've heard him count to 20. He Can count in twos but only up to 8. He'll go 2,4,6,8 then stop.
He knows his colours but then like Oliver will not bother the next day and just say some random colours.
His shapes he knows square, circle, rectangle, triangle, octagon , star , heart. He cab draw a circle , square , triangle and rectangle.
We'be not praticed his abc's for a little while. But we practice with a book. I'll say apple and he'll find the A and so on .
He knows all his sounds and also does a boom boom boom and pats his chest for heart |

| Imogen can count to two!!!! Well she actually says "two, two" lol but I can tell she gets the concept of what two is.
The alphabet song is no good, it's the same tune as twinkle twinkle and she starts trying to do the hand actions bless her.
Occasionally she makes a sound that sounds a bit like blue or purple whilst pointing at the appropriate paint pot, but I'm not convinced that's more than coincidence just now :0) |

| Maybe I need to make more of an effort counting with her, its not something I do everyday. We dont have stairs to count as we climb and I just maybe havent spent enough time on it. She did surprise me tonight when I was doing 1,2,3 with her and just getting her to repeat what I said by adding on 4 at the end by her own accord. Maybe she grasps more than I give her credit for. Colours I swear she nearly learnt overnight. It was almost like I decided to teach her them eg spent a day pointing out what colour nearly everything was and it just instantly clicked with her. If id made an effort sooner im nearly sure she could have done it earlier. Animals is another thing she learnt really quick and can now name some odd ones like dolphin/shark/panda/Meerkat etc. Meerkat was off the tv, if you ask her what noise a meerkat makes she says 'simples' I dont have an iphone but il maybe look into online things on counting and see if that helps. I'l look out for team umizoomi too. ABC is something I hadnt thought about teaching yet! I'l focus on counting for the min but. Its weird that 6 months ago she could barely talk and now she is learning so much new stuff everyday! |

| Hmm, I wasn't sure, so i just tested Milo now He's nearly 26 months. He can count up to 5 with me, then on his own straight after that. He can remember the order up to 5, but if he looks at any number, he calls it "4"! He can say basic shapes (square, circle, triangle) by himself, he sometimes gets colours right but I think it's more chance than anything else! Although he does know "purple" as he loves the lavender in our neighbours garden. He isn't sure about the names of alphabet letters but he loves this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLYq1gTEn80 and when he sees/hears the letter he says most of the words before it comes up for every letter but I have no idea if he's just remembered them all or is connecting the letter/sound to the word. He's getting there with animals but he calls penguins "vicky" elephants are "waboos" and cats are all "bob" |

| I cant even remember when hannah learned her colours. shes known them for ages.
she knows most shapes now
and I would say the one shes struggled at is counting. she still gets a bit confused but we are working on it. she can count to 20. but she gets a bit confused between the number 2 + 3. if she has two objects she will say she has 3. If I say are you sure you have 3? she will go back and count again. she does well but out of the three she struggles most with numbers x |
