I had a slipped disc for over a year and my god it was agony, I spent one half of the year either laid up on the sofa or in a wheelchair and the other half completely off my head on 26 tablets a day. I begged for an mri but they said no:evil: in the end the only reason I ended up having one is because I collapsed at home and had to be dragged on a sheet by two paramedics and my oh to our bedroom and lifted onto the bed because I couldn't walk (it was so bad my oh had to pull me to the end of the bed so I could go to the toilet in a bucket:oops: ). I had an mri which showed L4 and L5 disc prolapse with compression of the S1 nerve. I saw a Neurosurgeon at the JR in Oxford within two weeks of my mri and had a microdistectomy 3 months later.....Sorry went on a bit there.

I hope you get sorted soon

If you have the same op as me the leaflet I was given at the hospital before the op says between 4-6 weeks but I only took three to heal (I normally take ages) plus I have quite an easy job which helped me get back to work quicker. If you have a job which involves some heavy lifting and is quite strenuous (sp) then they might not sign you back to work until at least 4 weeks have passed. I think it all depends on what op you have and your body.

Hope I was a little help....let me know how you get on.
