Jamie's been ill on and off for a few weeks with a snotty nose, cough, etc. nursery phoned us today to say he was running a temperature, really grotty (which isn't like him) and crying every time he coughs. We took him to the dr and his temp was over 38 even after calpol. She gave us some antibiotics but said it was up to us if we gave them to him and it might be better to let him fight it himself. His had to have one lot of antibiotic already and I know its not good to have loads but on the other hand I don't want to leave it and him get worse. Its awful but also at the back of my mind is that he has to have been on them for a certain amount of time (although I think its only 24 hours) before his allowed back at nursery.

Anyway I think at the moment I'm at least inclined to leave him a couple of hours and see what happens with his temp but wondered what you would do

Caitlin has only needed anti biotics once in her life and that was due to skin infection after H, F & M disease. She never gets temps thank goodness and any time iv taken her to drs with a bad cough/cold they always say her chest/ears are clear and just to let her fight it.

In saying that, if she did have a temp and wasnt herself and I did have anti-b's then I would give her them. You have all weekend to get him on them properly and hopefully it wont affect his return to nursery on mon.

By the way I don't know why it said antibiotics twice.

Just spoke to my friend who is a pediatric nurse and she said its an antibiotic they perscribe for respitory infections and she'd advise us to take it as he could get bronchialitis otherwise so will give it to him when he wakes up.
