How do I come across?

I've just got off the phone to my mum and sister who both feel I come across as an uninviting, a don't come near me person.

Do i come across like this to any of you?

I've only met you in person the once...but erm no, Ive never got that impression


How do they mean it, its an odd thing to say really! Did they mean they feel like you dont want their opinion, or visiting you, or what?

well we were talking about me trying some groups round here so i can meet some mums in my area, and my mum said oh no you need to sort yourself out first you dont come over very nice your not very inviting. then my sister chirped in in the back ground yeah you one of those dont come near people you know the ones with a right face!

i didnt know what to say (i'd phoned my mum to tell her i had my letter through to see the hospital) i just oh do i and she yeah so i made my excuses and ended the call

I've met you twice and both times i've thought you were really friendly and nice

I have never met you but you are so friendly and I would love to meet you

Ignore what they said your lovely

Thats a really mean thing to say tbh - talk about knocking someones confidence when it's hard enough to muster up the courage to start a new baby group in the first place!

People have said that about me too. A few people have said they thought I was stuck up. I don't know what I do to give them that impression as I don't think I am and people who have got to know me and like me have been the ones who've told me that was their 1st impression.

Ive never met you Kelly but on here you always come across as very nice, and very helpful and if you were at a playgroup near me I would love to be your friend haha in fact I would make you be my friend

Kelly i think this is a horrible thing for your mum to say! Before i met you i thought you seemed really nice and this was confirmed when i met you in person. Ignore them!

Ummm i dont know why anyone would say that to you even if they did secretly think it? Its quite a cruel thing to say becaus enow your always going to question how your coming across. Its just mean in my opinion.

For what its worth although I have never met you I find you a lovely caring persona nd if you came to a baby group near me id be your friend. Just ignore them they are obviously crazy!

I thought you were lovely before I met you but you are even lovelier in person!!! I was expecting you to be quite shy and hide in the corner but you were so lovely, chatty and smiley that meeting has made me like you even more!!

thank you. Trev tells me just to ignore them but it cuts deep when it's your own mother. I think no matter what as bad as she has been/is you still want that something from them. if you get what i mean. My sister has turned into my mum (she's actually worse). Theres so much going on with my family atm (my sisters arrest was one of them) but i'd feel i was bretraying them by putting it any where.

any ways thank you for your replies. I'd normally ring my mum for a few weeks (she's not rang me in over 7 years) but she has an operation Monday so i will be ringing to check everything went ok.

argh well, thank god i dont live in the same town or even county.

Ive also been told I come across as intimidating and unapproahable before now and it makes you question yourself something terrible. At least mine was by someone at work which sucked bad enough it must be horrible when its family but FWIW i thought you were lovely x

I've never thought you were stuck up. The way you come across to me is well presented and confident but deffo not stuck up!

I've not met you but your from Essex.... How inviting do they need
